I don't think so. Probably only when the admissions offices are open. -

Just had my interview with Texas Tech. The online conferencing program didn't seem to work when they called! We ended up having to Facetime. I didn't feel as confident with this interview as I had my in-person one with Pacific. I've realized I definitely want to stay West Coast though, so blessings in disguise? haha.

I didn't apply to these two schools, but my friend got acceptances at NYU & Emerson today! He interviewed at Emerson a few weeks back. He also did a Skype interview for all those worried about in-person! -
Congrats!! I hope to be in your position, haha. I applied to too many out of state schools. I would first read the school's website very carefully- a few programs I read said they didn't give out wait list rankings.

I can speak on the topic of San Francisco State, which was my undergrad institute, (as well as the locations/campuses of CSU East Bay, Chico, & San Jose but not the departments themselves). I also attended the interview in-person & open house at Pacific in Oregon. I am curious about NAU as well! So far I have heard two positive reviews from NAU alumni that were not CD majors.

Same!! I'm both worried and excited haha. Realized today I have 89 days until my college grad, and like a month and a half to decide where I'll be spending the next chapter of my life. -
How to manage different dates of acceptance
jmk replied to Kate22192's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Only both through the physical letters! One school (NAU) sent an email, but did not include the deposit amount or instructions. NAU then also sent a letter with that information. The other school (La Salle) simply sent postal mail. -
How to manage different dates of acceptance

For the two schools I was accepted into, deposits are $300 and $500. -
I loved it! The department was really like a community, and the professors are really passionate about their work. There are a lot of clinical options, and if you are into AAC or Autism there are specialty grants. The only con was cost of living, and how there's never many days over 70 degrees! Last year I heard that the group interview is actually broken into small groups of 3-5, if that makes anything sound a little less awkward.

Also just to throw out some numbers- I currently pay $935/month to share HALF of a bedroom through student housing at SF State. & that was their cheapest option (and unfurnished). My friend in Portland pays $500 for her own entire bedroom!

Got an interview request from SF State today!! Super psyched as it's my alma mater, and the closest school to my parents' house!

I haven't heard anything either! I also check the "results" portal a lot, and haven't seen anyone post yet.

Volunteer hours vs observation hours question
jmk replied to bettafish293's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
On my resume: I put my Objective first then Clinical Experience: So for one of the pediatric clinics I put the clinic, the city it was in, the dates I volunteered then: Observed individual and group speech therapy sessions with clients age 2-14 years interacted with clients when appropriate during songs and games For the hospital I put again the city, the hospital name, and the dates I was there then Volunteer in both the Volunteer Services Department, and Inpatient-Rehab Speech Pathology Department 175 hours completed (75 nonclinical, 100 clinical) Observed dysphagia therapy and language evaluations Assisted in dining rooms during meal time Assisted in the cognitive therapy group with scheduled activities I actually didn't heavily use or rehash the experiences in my SOP if a resume was also requested. I did talk about how my job (working with kids) introduced me to speech, and how my experiences led me to wanting to work with adults. & I didn't ask for letters (though I could have). I used two CD professors, and my boss. I worked at a pediatric OT clinic for 3.5 years, and my boss was basically a family friend at that point. I knew he would write me the best letter of rec as he knew me best, and truly wanted me to succeed. -
My "perfect" city: good weather (limited to no snow), "hipster" parts, liberal bubble, and places to get outside and hike! I applied due to location. Some locations didn't the have the best weather, but have they also seemed to provide the 300k+ population & diversity I wanted. I did my undergrad in San Francisco, and loved it. For grad school, I eyed up Seattle, WA and Portland/Eugene, OR. I also applied to bigger cities like Philly. I did apply to places I wouldn't ideally live simply because I wanted to get into a program this year, and liked the program itself. If I end up with more acceptances, location/cost are my big factors at that point.

I prepared by researching the program I was about to interview with (in order to ask some questions//answer why I wanted to attend that program). I also did a bit of introspection (why I wanted to do SLP, basically reread my personal statement.) I'm glad I didn't practice questions because I feel like my answers would have been too "formed", and I might have stumbled if I forgot an answer partway through. Meanwhile, I also would say that I'm pretty good at thinking on my feet & sounding articulate through past speech & debate practice. Pros;; Very encouraging & supportive faculty! They definitely want students to succeed. Seems like a great community feeling. The campus is brick, and beautiful. Cons;; The school // town is TINY! & about a half an hour from a larger town. The weather is cold. No on campus clinic (could also be a pro). No "real" cons.

Definitely rent out a room! Just list that a group is studying in there. Unless the library staff is vigilant, seeing one person in the room will be enough not for others to come in (hopefully, haha)!

I have a friend who was rejected from Uni of Vermont a few weeks ago. Her GRE was pretty low, though. Best of luck! I dated someone for a bit that lived in the town next to Fairfield, haha. The one time I visited it was a really cute lil town!

Got a letter with an acceptance into La Salle (in Philly) today (2/25). The letter was sent out 2/20. I've never had any email communication from the school, so was a bit surprised! -
Volunteer hours vs observation hours question
jmk replied to bettafish293's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
All of my "volunteering" was a combination of volunteer work (making communication boards, making folders), and observation. I personally liked this model best. I got to see "everyday" tasks that SLP's did, while getting in observation. Also, I feel like I made some pretty strong connections! Places I volunteered: A hospital.I had to do 50 hours in a non-clinical department (gift shop) before being allowed into the clinical department. My shift was 4 hours, one day a week. It was about 2 hours observation, 1 hour helping at a cognitive skills group, and 1 hour clerical. I got to see a barium swallow study / dysphagia therapy / evals, and help out in a cognitive skills group! && Two pediatric clinics: 1 day, 3 hour shifts at both. I usually would observe 1-2 therapy sessions depending how long they were, then do cleaning/clerical.
