  1. Hello, I've been compiling things to do this summer before starting graduate school and came up with a summer reading list from tons of forum searches etc, you can find it on my blog www.rosyspeaks.com but I am wondering if anyone had any other good books that they can add or any advice for an incoming grad student to how to further prepare, it would be appreciated. THANKS
  2. I know a few people who just got into a school and now are deciding if they want to go to other programs. I also have heard of people getting in almost a week before classes start.

  4. I think when you're choosing between two well ranked schools it doesn't matter, but I think if you're choosing a program like GWU compared to UDC, yes it matters, and Ive heard from a lot of professors and SLPs that they do notice the difference when the students come in. I think to some extent it does matter but its only between the outliers.

  6. Its hard, I was rejected last year but I talked to faculty, found out what was wrong with my application and reapplied with a stronger application and got in somewhere. Its very defeating, but you can do it, Just have to be determined and focused. Don't be discouraged, find more ways to reapply yourself, make some sacrifices, I took a part time job just to have some extra time to volunteer doing research. Its also a number game, its so many people applying for a few spots, it helps to get to know faculty and really get in touch with people at the programs you're most interested in. Best of luck. Feel free to PM me if you need someone to talk to. Rosy
  7. SUPER REJECTED last year, cried a lot, then got my shit together, did research on my only time off, took a part time job just to be able to do it, retook my GRE, re did my statement and got new letters and VOILA. I got in. Its been real, I spend four years thinking I was going to medical school and then did a 180, decided that I shouldn't do it to make my parents happy and went back to night school to get my pre-reqs. Ive been on cloud nine. I feel like I am finally complete. Have hope everyone, it happens, just takes hard work. Rejection didn't kill me it made me stronger.
  8. I was waitlisted everywhere last year and then rejected and re applied this year and got in. Of course I really fixed my application this year.
  9. Its great when people start getting in. Looking forward to april 15
  10. Thank you everyone keep it coming. SUCH Great information. Its so scary to think about being in a lot of debt.
  11. Congrats everyone, I was waitlisted and rejected everywhere last year, its so exciting to hear all the acceptances.
  12. I would say that you should contact the admission director and just really explain the situation and how its your first choice school and you need funding etc. Also btw that is a great scholarship from GWU, I think they only offer a few of those, even though its a crazy expensive school. You have until April though to contact someone, I would defiantly not play the schools against each other, it comes off as tacky. I think mentioning funding from other schools though could be reasonable in your explanation for why you are drawn to other programs, approach it with more tact.
  13. Wanted to start a thread about funding yourself through graduate school, how did student do it and how much debt are you in? Did you work part time, was that manageable, did you get a GA? How are you going to pay it back? If you went to an expensive school do you think it made a difference? Would you do it again?
  14. Congrats, I did too. Its overwhelming.
  15. Don't be discouraged, I was waitlisted and rejected last year, it can be a humbling experience, but also I had some friends who got off the waitlist at some of their schools. Just a waiting game
  16. I think they just started sending out the first round of acceptances, if that, they usually just do a few, in the past they've had like a month to respond but I know that the date ing general is april. 15th to make a decision.
  17. Second year applicant and doing this all over is exhausting
  18. we got a email from UMD today that all their seats have been filled up 1 down...3 to go.
  19. Do you think schools will call people on a Saturday though? Or next week? The 15th has probably landed on a different week date before!
  20. Just got an email from GWU wanting to stay on their waitlist
  21. I just checked my application and it says decision has been made, so I have no idea what that means!!! Did yours change?
  22. I think we are going to have to wait another week after the 15th, I am sure the have to get together and look at applications, I mean who wants to work no a sautrday! I think its going to still be a waiting game until you literally get a rejection from the school. At GWU they told us that someone got in AUGUST. Can you believe that?
  23. As April. 15th approaches I am really curious to see who gets admitted off the waitlist! Would you please share any experiences you've had with the waitlist, if you got off and if you already had accepted another offer. There isn't much information out there on it, everyone knows the date is coming up but we are all scrambling and hoping for dear life! I am waitlisted to I think, 3 schools, haven't heard back from UDC. I am assuming ill have some news come next week. So close...yet so far! *shrieks
  24. Someone once told me, no news can be good news in the world of SLP applications.
  25. Thank you everyone, I really feel like this thread will help people who are applying for the first time or re applying and considering which schools to go to. Its always awesome to have a insider point of view! Especially because I am sure you all researched and went to open houses! Thanks!
