Hi! An admissions counselor called me today to review my CSDCAS application for the Dallas campus. She asked if I would be willing to go to the Austin campus in the event that I'm waitlisted and a spot at the Austin campus opens up. She said the only difference is the campus facilities and the professors you would have. I would say apply to your top choice location but don't stress too much about it!

We'll see. My first GPA is crap...but my 2nd BA in COMD is much higher. I also have the same fears that my cGPA will basically disqualify me but I'm going to give it a shot anyway!

Did they provide any funding? I am applying there as well but I am worried about the cost. I'm also terrified that my quant scores on the GRE are going to be abysmal. Do you know if a low quant score can disqualify during the admission process?
To the OP:  Imani a youtuber is an NYU distance student that discuss her experience on a regular basis. Here's a specific video concerning the program at NYU.

Unfortunately no funding for me. I’m planning to apply for more scholarships after this semester to show a strong GPA and hopefully receive some funding. Since I’m also a leveling student so costs for me anywhere look to be around the same ballpark which stinks massively. Surprisingly the cost wasn’t as bad as expected. Still super high though.
I don't think a low score should disqualify you, cause mine wasn’t super stellar. They do have the average of student GRE scores floating around and I think average quant was 150-156, with them accepting 25% of students who scored below that. They do view things holistically (or so they claim) so a low quant score shouldn’t ding everything on your application. I remember someone posting that they got in with a sub 140 score.

That makes sense for a history program. Sorry, I assumed you were referring to SLP grad programs. Good luck to you too.

For most grad programs (i.e., Ph.D. programs or others with a strong emphasis on research) this is the case, but for a clinically-oriented field research is not the primary focus. CSD programs typically do want to hear some personal stuff in the SOP: why we're interested in the field and what skills/qualities we have to offer. @KEIM, I would suggest talking about how your personal experience with ADHD helps you understand some of the struggles that children (and adults for that matter) go through.
Also, the admissions committee will definitely not think ADHD isn't legitimate--I'm still in grad school and I've already talked about and seen enough ADHD to know that it's real!

The tuition is 55k as another poster stated. I don't believe USAHS has an on campus program, just this hybrid one.

Hey!! I had my interview this morning with Emerson and it was more or less the traditional questions I got than what other posters talked about receiving. It's with your admissions counselor and it's pretty relaxed, but you may still feel a little nervous (I did and it showed in my first answer lol), because you're being recorded and it's being sent to the admissions committee with the rest of your application. Be yourself, confident, and let your personality shine! A little cliche, but it's really true.

I've heard Chemistry @ ENMU is a breeze. I took physics with Andersen at ENMU and even though the lab directions where kind of confusing sometimes he grades SUPER easy. There are also no exams or quizzes. Only labs and simple reading assignments that consist of a few one sentence answers. For one class there it's usually around $800.

KEIM reacted to Taylor Fields in I am tired of waiting
I know we are all here playing the waiting game, we've been playing since the moment we sent in all those apps. There is a reason they call this a process and for that reason I waited before even applying. Now I am losing it! For everyone who is still waiting? Please share with me the ways you manage to distract yourself. I know its the weekend and I won't hear from the school till at least Monday yet I still can't help but refresh my email. All of my eggs are in one basket now I was rejected from everywhere I applied except waitlisted at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Everything is riding on this and I am filled with anxiety. The not knowing is truly killing me.
Misery loves company, so if you're waiting and waiting please vent let us wait together and maybe it won't be so lonely

KEIM reacted to FoodDoc in Plans to Pay off Loan Debt
With this level of loan debt the "snowball" method will end up costing you more in the long run. AND it assumes that all of those interest rates are fixed - which if you took out private loans, they may not be. The snowball method is a stupid one overall, it just makes you feel good that you are closing out accounts when all it does is increase the amount of interest you pay over time. One of the (many) reasons I cannot stand Dave Ramsey.
First thing to do is take an inventory of the loans that you have, figure out what your monthly payments will be, and match that to your take home pay and budget. If there's a way to increase this (like through additional clinical certifications, PRN work or a second job/hustle, do it). I paid off a similar loan burden with a second job and a side business.
When it comes to loans, consider the following:
    1) If your employer offers a match for IRA/retirement funds, contribute only the amount necessary to receive the match. Otherwise you are leaving free money on the table.
    2) Build up an emergency fund of 3-6 months' worth of expenses.
    3) Make the minimum monthly payments on all loans. If you have "extra" money to spare, for example, if your emergency fund is large enough and you're considering upping your 401(k) contribution, don't. Every dollar you pay down debt is a guaranteed return on your money. Pay down the loan with the highest interest rate FIRST.
3a) #3 has a wrinkle in that if you have a mixture of private and Federal loans, the Federal loans have protections like deferment if you're laid off, Federal loan forgiveness, discharge on death, whereas the private loans generally do not have similar protections and you owe money regardless of your job situation. The Federal loans are also fixed interest, whereas the private are usually variable. You'll have to weigh the pros/cons of this if you have a mixture of loans. For example, the private loans might be lower interest than the Federal, but since they have fewer consumer protections, if might be in your interest to pay those off first even if they are lower interest.
If you can, consider relocating to an area with a lower cost of living. I moved from the NE out west to a more rural state and was able to slice my rent payment by 50% and expenses by a significant percentage. Some agencies like Indian Health Service and the VA offer tuition reimbursement in exchange for several years of promised service, and you find similar deals with rural non-profit hospital systems as well. Not sure what the market is like for SLPs in this regard, though, and that assumes you are a clinical SLP.

    Hi,
I am an SLPA in SoCal and from my experience that is not true. You gain so much experience as an SLPA and it has helped me in numerous ways. It's great to gain experience with volunteering, ABA, etc. but gaining experience as an SLPA is so valuable. We conduct therapy, plan lessons, complete notes, progress reports and so much more. I would highly recommend you look into becoming an SLPA, especially in CA  because the job market for SLPAs is "booming". Let me know if you need help on where to start!
