  1. I don't think so... they're not the ones giving me the loans! I listed the 10 schools I applied to when I filled out my FASFA. I ended up getting in to 6 of the 10. I don't think they care about your financial status, I mean if you're a perfect 4.0 student I dont think theyd deny you because you need financial aid. @Dianamite
  2. It doesn't matter at all! At least it didnt for me. I submitted mine in the beginning of February before I heard back from any schools.
  3. James Madison University has an online program that starts every 2 years in the Summer. This summer they are starting another online cohort I believe so Summer 2019 will be the next. I applied there and got rejected. I heard they're very into high GRE/GPA!
  4. I spent SOOO much time on ASHA ed find before I applied trying to find schools that were in my GPA/GRE range. Even though I knew I wouldn't go to a school more than 5 or 6 hours away, I looked at every state and every school to see what I thought my chances were. I thought my grades were pretty average, and was looking to find just one school I thought I'd fit into perfectly. I ended up applying to 11 schools because I scared and worried myself to the point where I barely even believed I'd get in anywhere. I spent over $1000 on apps (and because I took the GRE twice). Fast forward to the end of April and I have gotten into 4 schools, one of them being my top school that was way out of my grade range according to ASHA ed find. Long story short, if there is anything that I have learned from this experience, it's to give yourself a little more credit and believe that you will get in somewhere!! I wish I applied to half the schools I did and saved money. Write an awesome personal essay, have a job or two related to the field on your resume, have decent grades, and I'm confident you will get in somewhere! One thing I don't regret is taking the GRE a second time. I boosted my verbal score 5 points (145 to 150) and that definitely helped me in my opinion.
  5. I think you guys should send these schools emails on monday or sometime next week considering today is the deadline for most students to accept their seats! So I'm assuming starting next week is when a lot of schools will send out second rounds of acceptances or people will be accepted off of waitlists. I think that sending an email reiterating your interest in the program can only help you!! Don't make it lengthy, like @ahun17 said, short and sweet will be just fine!
  6. Pretty sure you can go anywhere for your CFY. For example if you look up job openings on sites like indeed.com you can see places looking for an SLP, but are also willing to hire someone going into their CFY.
  7. Yeah I just got accepted on Saturday and I applied January 14th! They're definitely doing it in waves.
  8. I got an acceptance to Adelphi yesterday! Most likely declining the offer though because of the price.
  9. I just got accepted into New Paltz!!!! This is my top choice so you can imagine how insanely happy I am right now
  10. Yeah I had mine with Dr. Bower... she was very nice and welcoming! And yes I agree, the questions definitely made me think twice.
  11. I agree! Their application process was super annoying. I sent everything to the Graduate Admissions office in Brooklyn. By the time I saw that the website said to send everything to Massachusetts, I had already mailed my recommenders the envelopes pre-addressed to Brooklyn (because that's where it says to mail them on the recommendation forms). I called the admissions office and they told me it didn't matter which place I sent it to, so I just decided to send all my materials to Brooklyn. My application status says everything was received, but it still says "under departmental review."
  12. Have you had your interview at New Paltz yet? I have mine on Sunday and am super anxious!!
  13. SUNY Plattsburgh is $250 too! Kind of surprised it isn't more. Happy because if I pay the deposit but change my mind and go elsewhere, $250 isn't THAT much to lose (in comparison to other schools). Mine goes right towards my tuition in the fall.
  14. I actually have my bachelors from a totally unrelated field- Television Production! I graduated in May of 2015 and in my last semester of school, I took a Deaf Culture & Heritage class that introduced me to the field of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. I signed up for my schools online Post-Bacc program the summer after I graduated to see if I really liked the profession as much as I thought, and I did. At first, I really loved Audiology and wanted to go to school for that, but it didn't take long for me to switch over to SLP. So from Summer 2015- Summer 2016 I did the Post-Bacc program, and in August 2016 I began working as a Teacher Aide in a 4-7 year old total communication classroom for children with developmental disabilities. I knew I had to have something on my resume that was related to the field because without that job, all I had on there was babysitting. Luckily at my school they allow me to shadow SLP's in my lunch/break time, so I was able to add that to my resume as well. I took the GRE in November of 2016 and ended up doing not so good on the Verbal, so I took it again in December. I scored 5 points higher, which still left me with a completely average score, but I didn't have time to take it again. I decided to apply to 11 schools because I knew all of my scores/GPA were nothing to brag about. So far, I've been rejected to 2 and accepted to 1! I really did cry when I opened up that acceptance email... I've worked my butt off the past 2 years and it's amazing to see my hard work paying off If I never took that Deaf Culture class to fill free space in my schedule I'm 100% positive I wouldn't be where I am today.
  15. I'm still waiting on Salus, Adelphi, LIU Brooklyn, East Stroudsburg, Molloy, Iona, and SUNY New Paltz. I saw acceptances for East Stroudsburg already so I'm guessing that'll be a rejection/wait list. And Iona's deadline just passed so I'm not expecting to hear from them any time soon (along with LIU Brooklyn). I already had an interview with Molloy, but haven't heard back and I have an interview with New Paltz later this week. I already got accepted to SUNY Plattsburgh, so if I don't get in to New Paltz I'll most likely go there because of the in-state tuition. We'll see! Just wanna hear back from all the schools ?
  16. I got accepted into SUNY Plattsburgh today!!! Cried tears of joy
  17. Yup! I got an email for their open house today too
  18. So I have an interview this week, and decided to brush up on the school and their program. As I was reading their FAQ's, I noticed this about interviews : "Each candidate will participate in a "proficiency" measure of knowledge of the basic sciences (as defined by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association)." What do you think this means?? Will I get a test or something about the ASHA courses that are required?
  19. I agree 100%!! I'm an out of field applicant and took all my prereqs online. I have no one to talk to and go through this process with, which is why I like this site so much! I've realized early on not to stress about others stats on here because everyone really is just so different!
  20. I would say both! One of them made sure to emphasize to answer the question in a "professional manner". The first one I did was definitely easier for me than the other, but I'm happy with how I answered both of them. Both questions tested the students knowledge of previously learned CSD material. Don't overthink it though! You'll be fine.
  21. This one was more of a free-format. When she gave it to me she said you have to write an short essay, and then said, "actually its just more of a sample." And judging by how quick the girl before me finished, I figured it didn't matter how I formatted it because there were no specific directions. I just did the other online one and took 58 minutes out of hour provided, and wrote 495 words out of the 500 word limit. For this one I did an intro-body-conclusion setup.
