PhD/DrPH Applicants: Fall 2021

Recommended Posts

Hi friends. I got accepted to CUNY phd in Community health and health policy. I am international student. Would really appreciate insights about the school and program. Though I did my research before applying, but it's always good to know from the domestic students or those who have been associated with the School. Would like to know about their funding mechanism as well.

Oh wow! I really hope you get in! I applied for community health. I haven’t been invited to anything neither. Maybe a bad sign? I saw somewhere some people got results? Not sure.... it’s really just ridiculous how long we have to wait. Just get it over with ya know?

I applied to UCLA community health, too. Based on what I've seen on the results page and this forum, I'm really expecting a rejection at this point ?I agree that they should be more considerate and just tell us if we're not getting in!

I have a questions regarding dissertation topics. Since submitting my application, my interest of topic has changed. How do I handle this in the interview? Speak to what I submitted in my application? Or share my new interest? Please advice. Thank you!

Is this for DrPH? I only did one interview (applied to only 2 programs) but was surprised that there were no questions on research interest in my interview. I get the sense that for PhD it would be riskier since funding depends on it while most DrPH programs (at least the part time ones) are self funded. That said, I am by no means an expert! It's just been my sense that research match matters more in PhD and your leadership potential/passion for application of research matters more in DrPH.

Curious if anyone else waitlisted on Emory GHD program has had any updates or heard anything about timeline etc. I doubt those accepted would have any Intel. I'm waiting on one final program decision, likely a rejection, and just trying to gauge when I might hear definitely from them. Thanks group.

Oh ok! Does anyone know if Berkeley DrPH interviews everyone shortlisted or just some?

I heard from Berkeley DrPH (acceptance w/o an interview) in early Feb. Maybe they do interviews on "as needed" basis? Perhaps they are waiting to send out waitlist until they get a touch more confirmation/clarity from their first wave of acceptances.

Yes you are right - it is an upcoming DrPH interview with USF. I guess you are right - that it is less riskier than PhD. was USF one of your interview schools by chance? It is only 30 mins long so I hope its more of getting to know you better type questions. Thank you!

Good luck! No, I didn't apply to USF although their program looks great. My interview was with UNC and was an hour. Wishing you the best on your interview!

I also got accepted! Im considering accepting but they said funding offers may not be available until the summer. That makes me worried.

So, did they send you an email regarding finding? Or held  any meeting with you in that regard.? Also, how much do they pay usually?

I asked in my interview. They said they work to help all of their students but information about specific packages or RA positions will be available late April or early May. They also sent me a follow up email after my acceptance to see if I had any questions about anything.

For those that have applied to University of Arizona (like myself) and are still waiting to hear back, I wanted to just drop this link regarding the school pulling funding offers last year. I was told by a graduate student (not in public health) that, although they aren’t doing that this year, stipends are often reduced, as are all faculty and staff salaries. This is pretty disheartening, considering that this school doesn’t have a history of great funding to begin with.

Oh ok thanks. Would you mind sharing your stats? Trying to understand the profile of an accepted student. Are you planning on accepting your offer?
