  1. Thank you. I'm concerned that if I say that to a POI it will come across as pushy and 'jumping my place in line'. But its really reassuring to hear that from faculty!
  2. Best of luck to you both! Its not easy applying to something as competitive as graduate school multiple times so hopefully your POIs see your dedication to the field.
  3. Wait schools notify on a Sunday? What sorcery is this?! But yeah its been feeling pretty dang slow and its wearing on my nerves. Gonna share something my mentor told me: So I asked: what should I say if I'm in a group interview and I'm asked what makes me a better applicant than others at the table? (thanks to whoever posted this in the prep thread) Mentor looks me dead in the eyes and says: I will not participate in this farce! In my head I'm thinking 'only someone who already has tenure would say that and survive XD'. The other advice I get was just to stress the unique combination each of brings to the program and with how rigorous the selection process is we'd be honored to work with any other person at this table regardless of whom the POI feels is the best fit etc etc. Basically a non-answer answer but shifts the burden to the POI so seems legit
  4. Congrats and thank you. We commented from a good place and I hope you take it to wherever you decide to enroll in. Will it be Berkley?
  5. Dude I'm already at 5 invites and even then I won't think any less of the schools that turned me down. I didn't even have that much issue with your previous comment; its a stressful time. But this reply just paints you as slightly immature. Comments to you (including mine) could have been a little more constructive but its genuine advice. People talk and you don't know whos going to take something you say to someone else and burn your bridges. Can we all agree to move on and let this part of the thread die? I don't want to miss any updates from schools I'm waiting on and I think you guys downvoted ClinPsy enough.
  6. Fit, funding, how you came across in your application materials; there are many reasons. BTW gonna echo stereopticons on this. There are a few members here that I've accidentally found on other boards I frequent. If a current grad student took your comment personally they may try to help the program 'dodge a bullet'.
  7. I mean it really depends on how many funding streams the lab and school has. The example that I gave was an actual example of me interviewing with chapel hill this year (even the POI was lamenting how ridiculously competitive the process is). The POI loved my app but with so many applicants there's a high chance other applicants will have better aligned experiences; I was also pretty honest in my SOP about what I wanted to do in grad school rather than pidgeonhole myself. Though being contacted by POIs prior to submitting your app is rare unless you initiate contact.
  8. For those waiting on Stony Brook: I believe the are interviewing some applicants now. Not 100% sure on the details (and sorry if this was discussed already - I'm a clinical applicant), just know someone in the department who mentioned it passing.
  9. Oddly enough there's a Harvard psychology acceptance on the results page but it doesn't say if its clinical. I wouldn't be surprised if the were already at that stage. Some programs are pretty hush hush.
  10. Rutgers interview dates are all next week so if you haven't heard then most likely. Sorry :/
  11. I haven't heard from JW either :/ love his work but it's a hella competitive program.
  12. Jcpenny/Macy's when they have sales and piecing it together with what I already have. Btw if you're a student the site 'unidays' gives you a once a day coupon for a ton of stores like modcloth, asos etc if you use a school email address
  13. One thing I haven't seen (correct me if this was already mentioned) is: during 1:1 interviews be comfortable with occasional silence. I know knee jerk reaction is to talk but if you've said the most relevant thing to an answer just let it settle and take the time to breathe. After that is a good time to ask a question of the interviewer (make it a good one to keep them on their toes!)
  14. I'm a bit confused as well. I emailed the department and got a non-answer. Then emailed my POI (was delirious from being sick -_-) and didn't get a response. I've written UConn off but its a little weird.
  15. There are no set interview days so far, I think each lab does its own thing.
  16. Ponder the larger things in life! Like 'why do bronies exist?' or 'why are chinchillas so dang adorable? Though I'm 5'10 so i'll be overthinking if someone is going to be scrutinizing why my dress pants don't cover my ankles XD
  17. Lol people you're overthinking the hair. Wear it however you feel more comfortable. If you know you're prone to fiddling with it then put it up/back. Just bring a light mousse or gel and the night before French braid and bobby pin so next morning it will be less frizzy and you won't have to mess with it as much.
  18. I don't know why but I find the entire 'looking up other applicants' thing pretty sad. I mean yes having achievements is going to help but there's more banking on an applicants personality and fit at this point. Why psyche yourself out by comparing?! But then again I remember some of the type As I interviewed with last time. It was hard getting them to have a non-academic conversation (talk about your freaking dog or the time you streaked in pre-k but stop talking about all the honor societies you're president of!)
  19. Thanks @stereopticons! This random weather is causing some pretty bad flu outbreaks. So if you come up north just be careful and use hand sanitizer etc. But they build us tough where I come from so I'll be right as rain in a day or so ^-^
  20. Were there a lot of non-answer answers or did people go full out?
  21. I really don't understand why people do this? Unless the program does something egregious (i.e accept applications then tells people it won't be accepting students that year) its pretty unprofessional. How are they going to react under supervision or if a client insults them? No one is guaranteed a spot and there is always an applicant with better credentials that you out there Not gonna lie though, there's a lot of red on the results page and it makes me a little nervous/annoyed that programs won't update portals but eh, c'est la vie. On a more important note is that I need to wash my hair and plan outfits but I have the flu and just want to cocoon myself. burrito burrito XD
  22. School: University of WashingtonArea/Degree: Clinical Psychology PhD ProgramRationalization: Dug around the site and saw that neither of my POIs were taking students Comment: Got so excited over the fit I forgot to email and check. Though the place where you find which faculty is taking students is kinda buried in my opinionCoping tactics: focusing on other interviews
  23. If its an official OFFICIAL offer and you know there are some schools you definitely wouldn't go to then politely email the POIs or DCTs as soon as possible that you appreciate their interest and would have loved to worked with then but you have a confirmed offer that you'd like to accept. DO NOT go and then tell them you don't want to be considered because you'd have taken up a candidates spot, their time, and it looks arrogant. For schools that are tied with the offer then you can wait to weigh your options. And congrats!
  24. Its kinda weird seeing definite acceptances and rejections while my interviews are still upcoming or the portal hasn't changed. That sort of closure seems so alien to me right now...(but I'm also battling the flu and maudlin due to cold meds so who knows). Anyway...I'm guessing Rutgers has finalized invites?
  25. When they sent out invites it was a generic letter so it may have been a mass email. But you should call to confirm, they're pretty helpful.
