  1. off beat
  2. It would be worth asking Stanford to inform you of a decision earlier because a deadline to accept is approaching. Additionally, it would be worth asking Columbia to extend their deadline so you can hopefully hear back from other programs.

  6. @leecy77 Nice! I haven't heard anything.

  9. Congrats on Rutgers! Sorry to hear about UCSD, but good luck on the other three!

  11. good riddance
  12. Same though! Wine is fabulous.
  13. @leecy77 My main LOR wasn't keen on it (not sure if he has something against Ivy leagues) so that influenced my decision. I applied to a few grad schools and one of them was definitely a reach, but he had no problem writing a letter for them. I've been in contact with the program director for Northwestern and IUPUI, so I'm feeling hopeful...especially for Northwestern.
  14. @leecy77 Awesome! I almost applied to Yale, but decided not to at the last minute.
  15. I hate to double post, but I have some information about processing timelines for some NIH-prep programs! @leecy77 Northwestern: application review begins 3/19, with invites for interviews being made shortly after, and final decisions being made by mid-April IUPUI: applications are under review and decisions will start rolling out in early April Ohio State: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions being made in mid-April. There is a waitlist through May
  16. Oh, you should be fine then! The cost of living isn't too bad. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I've been in the area for almost 7 years!
  17. That depends on what part of Illinois you're in. It wouldn't really be doable near the Chicago area, but it's possible in other areas provided you know how to budget well.
  18. @TakeruK Yes, I understand that my situation is different. I asked because I'm unsure of whether or not the research assistantship is covered by the graduate assistantship application I mentioned above. It seemed like a catch all application, but I don't want to make the assumption. I'll have to figure that out first and then proceed accordingly. Thank you for your response!
  19. I've been told that the financial aid offered in an award letter will be loans only; however, if your department is considering you for assistantships, fellowships, or scholarships, those will be retroactively added to your award letter and they will let you know. Try contacting the program director for clarification if your official letter/offer seems confusing.
  20. How should one go about crafting this email?
  21. @Aradhana94 No problem! Good luck.
  22. An administrative assistant for one of the programs I was accepted to sent an application to be considered for an assistantship and she sent it to the program director, the same person that signed my acceptance letter, saying that he will let me know of his decision, but did not specify a timeline. I received my financial aid award letter the next day and it confirmed what I already knew; I will not be able to attend without an assistantship. They are aware of this fact because they asked me to indicate whether or not I could attend the university without an assistantship on the program application and I indicated that I could not. I'm almost confident this program is my top choice, but relocation expenses are another concern I have to consider. When would be an appropriate time to inquire about my assistantship application? It has been a week since my assistantship application was received and I have until April 15th to make a decision.
  23. I ran out of reactions for the day, but yes, NY cheesecake is amazing!
  24. I'm still waiting to hear back from SDSU! Fingers crossed. I was told the decision should come tomorrow or next week.
