When will we hear!!!!
k_kismet replied to hopingtogetinsomewhere's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
@Kangamom what was UTD's deadline for applications last year? This year it is 2/15, so I'm wondering if they do acceptances even before the deadline is finished -

This is great! Here's to everyones Hopes, Dreams, and Guesses!! HOPES: Same as most- get into at least one school (I only applied to three) and have a great couple of years in whichever program I end up in! DREAMS: UT-Dallas is my top choice, and being offered in-state tuition would be phenomenal. Even without in-state I would probably go there. My boyfriend moved to Dallas this past summer for a job at AT&T and loves it, and I really do miss him. The fact that UT-D has such a phenomenal program and great connection if I want to do research is more than I could have asked for. Oh, and get a dog. GUESSES: I'm expecting at least an acceptance to UCF, especially since I'm applying for summer term and thats usually easier to be accepted (by a small margin). It's also my undergrad institution so that may either help or hurt me. Good Luck to everyone! Can't wait to hear everyones dreams come true!

Help! School Application Question..
k_kismet replied to Raeracer's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
They way I see it- Most schools SHOULD only need/want your transcripts through CSDCAS, since that's kind of the point of them using it. I think that as long as they have your transcripts the way they need the through CSDCAS (completed, verified, whatever it is) then you should hopefully be fine. If your CSDCAS app is not completed fully the way the school wants it than that may be a different situation. Again, this is my own thought process on it, so I could be wrong. But I hope for your case that it will be alright! -
Although their website is kind of difficult to maneuver and understand in parts (as least for me). By calling them I talked to someone who was really nice and helped me understand- so I would definitely give them a call

Apply for places that you cold really see yourself going- not just to see if you'll get in. I cut down on 3 places because I knew even if I got in it would cost a fortune to go there and I really couldn't see myself doing that (and it's SUPER expensive to apply). Be mindful of how many places you're applying to.

Yes! All of this. Thanks for the great information and hopefully good help for 2018 Applicants. Count your blessing if you have schools you're applying to that don't use CSDCAS. Read through these posts, and make sure your transcripts are in (you have to pay for each school you've attended- even if it was just for dual enrollment in high school or a transient credit at a local college)

(Hopefully this thread will help people in the future applying with CSDCAS since it is so confusing and poorly instructed) Is anybody else completely fed up with CSDCAS?! My first application is due 1/15 and my official transcripts have not all been received (still waiting on one more), but otherwise I had the green checkmark to submit and pay. I already paid the extra $30 to submit he application thru the schools own website (What's the point of a common app if we still have to fill out the schools one with all the same info?!?!?!?!??!). But when I went to pay it said that things such as evaultions/recommendations and transcripts would be locked up. I'm just confused on whether or not my things all need to be received and verified before my application can be put through. CSDCAS is so vague and even looking through the help files makes me more confused.

ASHA Ed-Find/GPA Calculation
k_kismet replied to VitaSineLitterisMorsEst's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I talked to a professor of mine at UCF about this, and I think he said most schools (mainly speaking on behalf of UCF though) took the last 60! I hope this is true as well, my Last 60/Major is much better than cumulative! -
I really dislike CSDCAS.... I'm in a similar situation. I think if schools want to look at one or the other mainly then they can search it out. Most places that I'm applying to also ask for my unofficial transcripts in their own separate applications (why even use CSDCAS anyways then?!?! UGH) so hopefully they'll look more at those and be able to calculate the other GPAs. But yes, all-in-all I really despise CSDCAS system
-
I'm not really sure what you're asking, but if you're applying for schools and talking about that then it really depends on the school which GPA they may look at. On your transcripts they well definitely see your cumulative (all of your course work, regardless of major in your time at university) but may look deeper into your major or last 60 GPA. I'm not really sure what you are referring to as graduate degree vs undergraduate degree- assuming you are in this forum to talk about applying for graduate or PhD programs. Hope this helps you!

I'm so fed up with CSDCAS. I feel as though the instructions are not laid out well. I didn't know we had to pay/send our official transcripts from schools for them to verify. I just pressed the button after inputting all mine myself and have been waiting until finally I did more searching and realized. I wish it were more well laid out. MY first due date is 1/15... so I'm hoping they get my stuff and verified by then... otherwise there goes that school (not my top choice anyway, but still) Luckily my top choice is NOT through CSDCAS so I've been able to put everything myself and it has been far easier. Good luck everyone!

I asked one of my professors (she's on the admissions for the program at my school) about how they feel about receiving more than "needed/required"... She said that if that last one gets really long winded or redundant, then they may stop reading it- which seems fair. It is unfortunately cause you won't really know what order they get sent in or which one WILL definitely be read. Most of the places I'm applying require three, but I have four going in. So hopefully they will read all of them or at least the better of those, haha. Fingers Crossed. Good Luck!

@BamaBelle @ccran @gradgirl2016 me again bothering on this post. I was wondering if any of you would feel comfortable or mind sharing what the tuition is for the program (out-of-state) Thanks!
-
2016 for sure. They both have the same superscore (V+Q added together) which is GREAT!! But they slightly higher AW score will help you a little bit, that margin is a much bigger percentage difference than the V or Q scores Good luck! You're scores look amazing!

I currently go to UCF for my undergrad, graduating in Spring 17 with BS in ComDis! It's pretty cool around here- it's a typical college town as far as environment goes. I'm living just north of campus (5 minute drive) and sometimes people just have parties in the apartment complex but thats to be expected. As far as the program goes, I know the clinic is pretty hands on and you get to be watched over and demonstrated a lot of things, in comparison to just being more free to do your thing (which some people prefer! I know i like that aspect). If you're wanting to get into research there are a lot of professors that have grants and different labs going on (namely, Towson and Troche for who I know best) if you're interested in looking up any of their stuff. I know they both take on students from undergrad for help and surely graduate students too. But anyway, there is the clinic technically on campus grounds in the research parkway area, so thats nice and convenient, as well as UCF being close to downtown orlando and all the medical hospitals and things surrounding that. Good luck, I hope this helped! Feel free to PM me if you have any more specific questions!

Very random- but were you able to submit your applications prior to having all of your LoR in? I want to start sending my applications early (most are due between Jan 15 and Feb 15) but I would love to get them finished and submitted prior to the New Year. The only thing I'm really waiting for is my letters of recommendations I've heard different things about whether or not it's advantageous to submit them early to the deadlines Thanks!

Unrelated to OP, but rather than start a new thread I'll just tag along. I've recently been thinking more about getting into research and the possibly to going for a PhD after my Master's. The brunt of my SOP right now is about my experiences and how that will help me as a clinician/therapist and especially in wanting to work with kids. I am really passionate about that side of the field, so how to I also mention wanting to get into research and liking the faculty/facilities offered at the schools I'm applying to. I guess my main thought is I don't want to appear as though I'm confused or unsure what I want to do, since research and therapy seem to be on opposite spectrums. I don't want to just randomly say "hey I also maybe want to do research". Thanks in advanced for any advice!

When people say high GPA to cancel out low GRE or vice versa, what are you considering low. I have pretty high GPA, and I consider my GRE scores to be decent. I want to have high scores for both, but I really don't want to spend another $200 to take the GRE again and only raise it by a few points. Plus its getting into busy holiday seasons and I probably don't have time to retake it at this point. Just curious stats wise what seems to be the top importance. Also.. is it true that schools really only look at your major GPA/last 60. That would be awesome cause I went through a few major changes that reflect in my cumulative GPA... Thanks in advanced!

Question/Suggestion about LoR... I secured my three (two academic, one employer), but I had sent an email to another professor and he finally got back to me about possibly meeting to discuss him writing me one. If he decides to write me one, would it be okay or too much to have 4 letters. I've read a few things about how it may be too much and admissions may not even read them all or be turned off by having an extra. I don't know which to choose from since each letter is going to be pretty unique and different. Thanks in advanced!
