Lovemyboy Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 2 minutes ago, plus said: From what I could gather, it seems the NYU admit was an informal email from a POI, not from the DGS, so you’re not necessarily rejected if you haven’t heard from NYU. In the case of Princeton, yeah, I think silence = rejection. I think for these two schools, no news is bad news..with rejections..
PoliSHopeful Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I have seen some NYU admits on the results page, I am not sure if they send the "unofficial" admissions first or the official ones (one of the admits said that they got an email from DGS. I'm freaking out now because I didn't receive such an email yet.

Muan1 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Just a friendly suggestion: try not to get tunnel vision just because you didn't happen to get into a particular school, whether that be Princeton or whatnot. For many of us, we still have yet to hear from a ton of schools, and how one school decides is quite different from another. Also a nice excerpted thought by Henry James: “Life is, in fact, a battle. Evil is insolent and strong; beauty enchanting, but rare; goodness very apt to be weak; folly very apt to be defiant; wickedness to carry the day; imbeciles to be in great places, people of sense in small, and mankind generally unhappy. But the world as it stands is no narrow illusion, no phantasm, no evil dream of the night; we wake up to it, forever and ever; and we can neither forget it nor deny it nor dispense with it." gbheron, PoliSHopeful, NotaDoctorShh and 3 others 5 1
icemanyeo Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Congrats to today's admits! Just wondering: did anyone hear from Princeton's pre-doctoral fellowship?

Hey lovemyboy, could I suggest you rethink and find healthy ways to cope with app/grad school? It seems most of your posts on here is mostly being sad and losing hope. That is definitely not an approach that will help you succeed. I know this process is full of anxiety and at times self-doubt, but if you cannot at the core believe you deserve your place and the ability to see a rejection as a fuel to prove someone wrong, I am not sure the road ahead will be easy because grad school will be tough and there will be many, many, many rejections. gradinho, Crossed_fingers, guest789 and 4 others 7

I am sure you will get an admission to a great school! Keep your hopes up! gbheron 1

Something that helps me deal with anxiety is becoming aware that my end goal is not having a PhD per se, it's actually the knowledge and community that grad school and academia provide. Knowing this, I am mindful that there will remain many other ways for me to achieve these goals with or without a PhD. It's an exercise of self-confidence; it helps just knowing that, no matter what, we are going to be OK. Edited February 4, 2021 by gradinho PolNerd, cheetah, Muan1 and 6 others 9

TheLifeofBrian Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Congrats folks! That's super exciting!
comradecommissar Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Got a waitlist from Princeton, which is actually pretty great given that it was one of my weaker apps and not the strongest fit. Gives me hope for Yale and MIT, which are my two strongest.
PoliTheory2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I know I'm a little behind, but claiming Princeton acceptance with Political Theory subfield! Came as an email. Cannot believe it! kmccorm327, TheLifeofBrian and Richelieu 3

poliscihopeful2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Also claiming a waitlist at Princeton in CP. Congrats to all admitted! Given how tough this cycle is looking, I don't think a waitlist will likely result in an admission, but glad to be considered to a great program.
insightfulramblings Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I just received a waitlist from Umass. It was an email from the Chair of the department. kmccorm327 1

NYU I don't really expect to get in, even though its my current undergraduate school. Its a bit too quant heavy for me, and my quant coursework and GRE score don't cut it there. Id say my best bet is Yale or MIT, given the fit, but who knows. This cycle is insane. I was absolutely expecting a rejection at Princeton so this gives me some hope. Also applied to Oxford and LSE for masters in the UK, and Im hoping there might be some good news there.

ConcreteBalloon Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Any of the admits to Princeton apply to the Political Philosophy PhD? I need to have all my hope extinguished
