From what I could gather, it seems the NYU admit was an informal email from a POI, not from the DGS, so you’re not necessarily rejected if you haven’t heard from NYU.

In the case of Princeton, yeah, I think silence = rejection.

I think for these two schools, no news is bad news..with rejections..

I have seen some NYU admits on the results page, I am not sure if they send the "unofficial" admissions first or the official ones (one of the admits said that they got an email from DGS. I'm freaking out now because I didn't receive such an email yet. :(

The results page is mostly comprised of trolls these days, don’t take it too seriously.

Freaking out, too. And losing hope as there's no news....Hope is gone.

Just a friendly suggestion: try not to get tunnel vision just because you didn't happen to get into a particular school, whether that be Princeton or whatnot. For many of us, we still have yet to hear from a ton of schools, and how one school decides is quite different from another. Also a nice excerpted thought by Henry James:

“Life is, in fact, a battle. Evil is insolent and strong; beauty enchanting, but rare; goodness very apt to be weak; folly very apt to be defiant; wickedness to carry the day; imbeciles to be in great places, people of sense in small, and mankind generally unhappy. But the world as it stands is no narrow illusion, no phantasm, no evil dream of the night; we wake up to it, forever and ever; and we can neither forget it nor deny it nor dispense with it."

Congrats to today's admits! Just wondering: did anyone hear from Princeton's pre-doctoral fellowship?

Hey lovemyboy, could I suggest you rethink and find healthy ways to cope with app/grad school? It seems most of your posts on here is mostly being sad and losing hope. That is definitely not an approach that will help you succeed. I know this process is full of anxiety and at times self-doubt, but if you cannot at the core believe you deserve your place and the ability to see a rejection as a fuel to prove someone wrong, I am not sure the road ahead will be easy because grad school will be tough and there will be many, many, many rejections.

Oh I did not mean to freak you guys out.

I was very upset after being rejected from two schools too and still got admitted to one of my top choices. I am sure you will get an admission to a great school! Keep your hopes up!

Thanks Dude. I'm trying to be hopeful, still waiting. Thank you for cheering me up.

Hope there'll be more good news for everyone.

Something that helps me deal with anxiety is becoming aware that my end goal is not having a PhD per se, it's actually the knowledge and community that grad school and academia provide. Knowing this, I am mindful that there will remain many other ways for me to achieve these goals with or without a PhD.

It's an exercise of self-confidence; it helps just knowing that, no matter what, we are going to be OK.

Got a waitlist from Princeton, which is actually pretty great given that it was one of my weaker apps and not the strongest fit. Gives me hope for Yale and MIT, which are my two strongest.

Hey, if I am not mistaken, I think that they have discontinued their departmental pre-doc program and will join the university's pre-doc initiative starting from 2022-23?

Hi! What other programs have you applied to?

UChicago, Yale, Princeton, MIT and NYU. NYU I don't really expect to get in, even though its my current undergraduate school. Its a bit too quant heavy for me, and my quant coursework and GRE score don't cut it there. Id say my best bet is Yale or MIT, given the fit, but who knows. This cycle is insane. I was absolutely expecting a rejection at Princeton so this gives me some hope.

Also applied to Oxford and LSE for masters in the UK, and Im hoping there might be some good news there.
