hiroshiman Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Speaking of birthdays, today is my 30th. Good news from somewhere would be a welcome birthday gift, and a good way to begin the fourth decade.
RubyBright Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 FIRST ACCEPTANCE! WHEEEEEE! ... Had to wait until this morning to freak out so that I could call the department and ask if "recommended for admission" really meant admitted. Soleil ت, Bluth., pears and 2 others 5
InHacSpeVivo Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 FIRST ACCEPTANCE! WHEEEEEE! ... Had to wait until this morning to freak out so that I could call the department and ask if "recommended for admission" really meant admitted. Congrats! That is amazing! Speaking of birthdays, today is my 30th. Good news from somewhere would be a welcome birthday gift, and a good way to begin the fourth decade. Happy Birthday! I just turned 30 myself, and it isn't quite as horrible as I expected (we'll see if I get in anywhere...) I thought it was bad having a birthday before application deadlines, but during decision season is WAY worse.
Lilac13 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Yay!!! Congratulations! FIRST ACCEPTANCE! WHEEEEEE! ... Had to wait until this morning to freak out so that I could call the department and ask if "recommended for admission" really meant admitted.
Sconnie Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 A negative decision coming on my birthday definitely put a damper on things but here I am another year older and still have some schools on the board...this whole getting old thing is a bit of downer though. Happy birthday to all of you that are dealing with decision and birthday season simultaneously

annieca Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Congrats everyone on acceptances! I have, quite crazily, decided where I'm going and the only thing that will change that is a *hell* of a funding package from one of the schools. I'm going to graduate school! DarwinsBones Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 So I freaked and couldn't remember if one of the universities i applied to had all my transcripts. So I called to check and they confirmed. Before they hung up they told me that I would have a decision next week. 3 hours later I got denied on there website......
Lulubelle Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I thought some of my crazy would dissipate after getting some acceptances, but now it's taking a new form. I have a flight scheduled for a GA interview "weekend" one morning and was planning to work remotely that afternoon and evening. (The interviews start the next day.) While I have a little bit of buffer time, it's still a rather precariously scheduled travel plan. So, of course, I've started looking at the 15-day forecast to see if it'll be good weather so I can avoid delays and was dismayed to see a forecast of "moderate snow." I know that it's not accurate at all at this point, but it's still feeding my crazy...
misskira Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 It's a really cruel joke that my email hasn't been working all morning. Yahoo is experiencing "technical difficulties." misskira and TeaGirl 1 1
OhMySocks Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 One of my schools has sent out a few decisions recently. For a while today, I was getting a 404 error when I try to log into my application status. I thought they thought my application was so bad that they didn't bother with sending me a decision and just deleted my app instead, lol. Soleil ت 1
aldero Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I got today one rejection from a uni in amsterdam. While I was not so enthusiastic about this uni, the rejection made me feel anyhow very anxious. I started to doubt about the other applications... and I have been feeling terrible all the day. I freaked out at some moment and started to look for positive or signs... It is horrible.
Manifestin2010 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Hi guys, I have religiously followed this thread and I feel it is time to actually contribute to the ranting. I was losing my mind so I decided to call my top choice to ask when decisions would be sent out. Since I have recently changed my phone number and it is not the same number on the application, I figured they would not be able to track me or my application! Imagine my surprise when my top choice admin officer called my new number and says "Sorry I missed a call from this number, how can I help you?" Now talk about going crazy and hoping that they cannot connect my new number to my application profile!! Edited February 7, 2013 by Manifestin2010

I got two rejections in a row a few weeks ago and started thinking that meant no one was going to want me. I started looking at what sorts of jobs I'd apply to and deciding what to do with all the money I'd save from not going to interviews (that part was actually sort of nice). But then I got some acceptances and realized that it was just bad timing. Don't let this one get you down! InHacSpeVivo 1

Geesh, I feel for you, I applied to a program early Jan. They were missing several items in my application a week or two later. I told them that everything was there, they eventually found it. One week later, I receive a generic letter of rejection. Fabulous. Their disorganization actually made the rejection easier to take, I didn't want to go to a school for several years if they are going to be messy the whole time. Keep your head up!!!
narcisso Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 It's a really cruel joke that my email hasn't been working all morning. Yahoo is experiencing "technical difficulties." I had that too. Some kind of maintenance I think.
OhMySocks Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I got an email with the title "Ph.D. Applicant Interview & Reception". I currently work as a research assistant at a university (that I didn't apply to). Yeah, it was an invitation to attend the reception for their visiting applicants. I wanted to punch something. Today I had a venting session with my thesis advisor and mentor.....I feel much better about things now regardless of the outcome.
