  1. Your stats sound great to me! Like others have said apply to school with less applicants so it makes you stand out. You can find this out by researching each individual score on ASHA EDFind page. That's what I did. I found I had an "easier" time applying to schools that looked at 150 applicants compared to 500 applicants. I also looked all over the country.
  2. It took me three different application cycles to get into grad school! Don't give up! The process is quite frustrating, believe me I understand. You sound like a strong candidate and have a lot going for you. Focus on that experience. It shows that you are truly interested. I know you said you're almost done with your applications but try and find schools that have a good ratio between class size and those they accept. I was almost done with my applications when I applied to a school at the last minute because I thought it would be a good fit for me. That's where I ended up going! I went for schools all over the country that accepted a wide range of applicants with gpa and looked at your experience. While interviews are scary I believe they help you get in if you're invited to one. I was invited to interview at 3 schools and ended up accepted at 2 of those! You will get there. Like @Chai Tea Latte said you have to apply smart! I learned the hard way that lesson.
  3. It took me 3 different cycles to be accepted into grad school! Now my dream of starting in my program is happening in a couple of days! ? Like others have mentioned is it possible for you to apply out of state? The first year I applied to all in-state schools because I didn't want to move out of state! That was my first mistake. I had almost identical gre test scores as you after taking it three times. After I realized I needed to be more open to possibilities all over the place that fit my gpa and gre range. I used asha edfind to match my statistics to past applicants. While others have said its not always accurate I feel this helped me. I also read that ways you can make up for low areas of your application are strengthening other parts. I did this by gaining experience working with kids and bumping up my letters of recommendation from 2-3 to 4. I picked past work experience and professors that knew me well and could give a solid leg up for me. After all this I was accepted into 3 awesome programs and waitlisted at others! I know this was long but I hope it helped! Remember the time will pass anyway might as well have your time pass reaching toward a goal! Don't give up! ?
  4. Each program itself will have an area in their application to attach documents. This where it will list or may not list resume. I've found that most schools ask for a resume but some don't!
  5. It's no problem at all! We're all in this together Feel free to PM me if you have other questions!
  6. Your scores are great! Plus you have a high gpa! I would save the money and not take it again!
  7. I had three C's during my undergraduate, one in a speech class and two in other courses. It took me three years of applying to speech grad schools but I finally was accepted and couldn't be happier Don't be discouraged because of grades. Schools want to look at other aspects of your application besides grades. I had pretty mediocre gre scores as well because I was never a good test taker. However I took the gre's three times and sent all the scores in to show my perseverance to scores which I believe they appreciated. What is your experience in the field and activities during undergrad? To give more of an edge I volunteered at an integrated preschool in the area where I was able to interact with kids and also observe an slp. I talked about this in my letter of intent and how it confirmed my interest in being an slp. If you don't already, getting experience of this nature would greatly help. Try and get professors/bosses that you have a close relationship with to write you letter of intent. To up my game, I didn't do the bare minimum of letters of recommendation (usually 2-3) but instead 4. Are you just applying to schools in Arizona? If you can widen your search to other areas. I have found that by searching Edfind on asha's website of schools, that finding schools that fit my range I had more success of getting into their programs. Addressing the reason of receiving a C in your class is a great start and one that I did. It shows the school that you are addressing it head on and not avoiding it. I know this is a long response, but I hoped it helped. Let me know if you have questions!
  8. I tried to get back feedback on my rejections but never received responses or they gave the generic response of we look at gre, letters of recommendation and gpa. So I found it not helpful at all. But when I did email I emailed the department head. Hopefully other people will give you better responses than me haha.
  9. I bought the Manhattan 5lbs study book for the gre. What I liked about this book was there were a lot of practice problems and it was split up into the different sections. There were also practice tests which was nice if you wanted to time a test. I took the gre three times and to be honest I wished I saved the money. My scores were very similar to yours and I improved my writing portion from a 3.5 to 4 which was great but my verbal and math did not change much as I have never been a great standardized test taker.
  10. Sure! I got into Sacred Heart University and Governors State University. I also had an interview at Samford University but was not accepted. I had interviews at all three schools and two out of the three I was accepted into. So I feel if you have interview you have a good chance and are able to shine in person!
  11. @plume great suggestions! I agree with everything that was said. @AVSchilling1995I had the same gpa and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders. I volunteered as a preschool assistant working with a special ed teacher an a integrated preschool. It was a great experience with different professions and I also got to observe the slp there! I also improved my gre slightly but honestly like what was said look at edfind and find the range of schools that fit your gpa. After 3 times applying for grad school I was accepted into 2 grad schools and waitlisted at 9 others! You can do this! Don't give up! ?
  12. It took me three times to become accepted into grad school! Don't give up! I would say that to me you have really great GRE scores. Most of my professors said that you should be in at least the 50th percentile or above and that's what you are. I think what's more important is you as an applicant and the whole picture. To me and some schools I applied to it was more important the student as a whole and their experience than anything else. I volunteered the past school year once a week at an integrated preschool. There I assisted the special education teacher with the classroom and got to work with kids with Autism, Down Syndrome and developmental delays. They were also super helpful and let me observe with an slp since I expressed an interest an becoming an slp. I think that really boosted my application since I am going to grad school in the fall and I even had a choice between schools I would use that experience you've gained and also if you are able apply to schools all over the country. I found that I had a better time not restricting my applications to a certain region of the country. For example as an east coaster I found there was a lot of competition there so I expanded my search but I understand if that's not possible. While I am going to school farther from home than I would have liked I figure it is only 2 years of my life and it will get me the degree I want! Edfind ASHA was my best friend when researching schools. I became really picky and specific with finding schools that my stats fit with and I think that really helped. I know I couldn't help specifically for those programs!
  13. It took me three times to become accepted into grad school! Don't give up! I would say that getting your slpa certification and working for year is a great idea! . I volunteered the past school year once a week at an integrated preschool. There I assisted the special education teacher with the classroom and got to work with kids with Autism, Down Syndrome and developmental delays. They were also super helpful and let me observe with an slp since I expressed an interest an becoming an slp. I found that I had a better time not restricting my applications to a certain region of the country. As a fellow east coaster I found there was a lot of competition there so I expanded my search but I understand if that's not possible. While I am going to school farther from home than I would have liked I figure it is only 2 years of my life and it will get me the degree I want! 14. After two failed rounds of applying to grad school and twice retaking the gre to only improving my writing from a 3.5 4o 4 and only improving my verbal a couple points, I decided I would try and gain some volunteer experience with the population. I volunteered the past school year once a week at an integrated preschool. There I assisted the special education teacher with the classroom and got to work with kids with Autism, Down Syndrome and developmental delays. They were also super helpful and let me observe with an slp since I expressed an interest an becoming an slp. I think that really boosted my application and after 3 times trying to apply I am going to grad school in the fall and I even had a choice between schools It sounds like you have awesome experience with adults! I would use that and also if you are able apply to schools all over. I found that I had a better time not restricting my applications to a certain region of the country. Don't give up if this is what you want to do!
  15. For the CSDCAS letters each professor I had submitted one letter. So I had 4 people write my letters of recommendation and on CSDCAS I think I applied to 25 schools but they didn't submit it 25 times, just once! For schools not on csdcas I gave my professors a list of those schools and a due date I wanted them to upload the letter by. Most of these applications they could upload electronically and were sent an email explaining the process. I hope that helps!
  16. I did both emails and calls! I found a lot of slps were open for observation and I got observations in hospitals, small clinics, nursing homes and group homes. I had some places that never returned my calls but I had mostly success. I completed my hours during undergrad and some hours on my own at a preschool just as a refresher. I didn't record the hours but it was nice to get to talk with an slp.
  17. How I handled my letter of intent I did a general outline of what I wanted to say and then tailored it individually to each school depending on what they wanted. I said my interest in speech, a background about me and my goals for grad school and what I liked about the grad program. My professors did a general letter of recommendation for each school. CSDCAS is nice because they can just submitt that once. Hope that helps! I know applying to school is stressful!
  18. I had an interview at Samford University, didn't get in after the interview but that's ok! They seemsed very nice and invested in their students. They are a newer program so they are in the process of having the program accredited so its in the candidate stage. There is no on campus clinic so you get experiences right away on off campus locations from the first semester because gaining hours goes along with your classes! If you are interviewed you also get a chance to talk with current grad students and ask any questions. Seemed like a pretty decent program to me. Hope that helped!
  19. I agree with @Kslptobe send all scores taken! I did for my applications and I agree it shows the admissions you aren't giving up and trying to improve you score! My fingers crossed for you for the 3rd time applying! 3rd time was a try for me and that's when I got in to two schools!
  20. I actually felt I had better chances applying to grad school out of state. I applied to grad school three different cycles and got in on my third try with two options ! Go with what everyone has suggested and apply to schools using ed find that accept a range of students within the gre and gpa that fits you. Good luck and don't give up!
  21. @KslptobeYou sound so similar to me grade wise! It took me three separate application cycles to become accepted into grad school! It just shows we don't give up and work hard to get where we need to be I've done the same thing and have tried to write encouraging words to all us fellow applicants that have/have been discouraged by the application process! Congratulations!
  22. I was provisionally accepted to one of the schools I applied to. Would have to take a class before I started grad school and then would be fully accepted. I decided not to take this school but provisional acceptances do happen! Hope that helps.
