  1. (Wrong thread lol) I applied to Laurier too but haven't heard back. English.
  2. Without a Psych BA I'd say an MA would give the adcom a better idea of what kind of research/work you're into and capable of doing.
  3. literally me!!! You're not alone My programs are very explicit on their websites (offers are being sent out in March) but I still keep checking my portals obsessively everyday! I'm on the results page here on gradcafe several times a day...
  4. For my MA YorkU offered me a minimum package that was enough to cover tuition and some living expenses ($27k). I know for the PhD programs UofT commits to a min of $15k and tuition waiver. So by “pay out of pocket” YorkU means you have to pay from the funding you receive, it doesn’t mean that you won’t get a big enough funding. I agree with takeruK that it’s very competitive for international students. If I was you I’d apply when I already got PR so I can also be eligible for external funding like OGS and everything. (International OGS is a different competition with very limited resources) . how long is your MA? If it’s one year, it might be worth it to attend now if you got in. After you receive your MA degree you can apply for the MA nomination stream in Ontario (ie you can apply for PR as long as you have an MA degree)
  5. Carleton sent me their offer in late Feb/very early March last year. But I'm guessing this depends on the program/department and not the school. This year my application status has not changed to "Recommended for Assessment" yet (btw that means "Your application has been submitted to the admission committee of the academic unit to which you have applied." according to their website) even though it was due on Feb 1 as well
  6. When I applied to an MA at York last year I heard back in early March (someone heard back in late Feb apparently). This of course depends on the specific programs but I feel like late Feb/early March seems to be the norm (feel free to correct me!). My status changed in MyFile before I received an email lol I heard back from Carleton slightly earlier, I'd say late Feb.
  7. UofT is committed to min $15000 funding on top of a tuition waiver. I don't think they have unfunded acceptances That being said, each program typically admits one or two international students...
  8. For international students, Toronto is a much better city to live than Montreal and imo much more ethnically diverse. More than 51% people living in Toronto were born outside of Canada. You'll have plenty of opportunities to blend in and network with both domestic students and other international students. UofT campus is also located in the downtown core, close to all sorts of fun things to eat and do. UofT also (infamously) has a large number of international students from Asia
  9. I saw a few MI acceptances in the Results page! Congrats! Anyone wants to claim them?
  10. Congrats!!!!! I saw two MI iSchool posts on the Results page, one of them yours? I can't wait to hear from the PhD program
  11. It seems to me the advisor thinks the program isn't a good fit for you, it could be their personal discrimination, it could be that there's something in the program's culture that is discriminatory and out of this advisor's control that she wants you to be aware of? I agree that it's weird. Did you contact the student that dropped out? Tbh I would be very interested to learn why they dropped out (it might be external factors or internal factors that your advisor wasn't allowed to say) Anyway, this all sounds super odd, I'm sorry you have to deal with this! Are you applying to the MA program in that school? "Under review" usually means your file has been received by the grad assistant, it doesn't really mean you're accepted or anything significant.
  12. CONGRATULATIONS! So nice to hear some programs in Canada already giving out offers! I've been watching US schools giving out offers and lowkey jealous.
  13. Nooo, you aren't! It's my fault, I should've tagged @canadianchart haha
  14. Sorry for not being clear haha, I was talking to the person that got into U of Manitoba Many MA programs in the States aren't funded but it's different in Canada
  15. Many schools have funding for MAs and PhDs both, so no giving up yet! I'd say the official offer from the school would have the funding if any!
  16. It's best to ask your program's admission office. The answer depends on the schools: sometimes they let you know early so you have sufficient time to apply for a visa; other times, they have limited funding for international students so they may have to wait to confirm funding before extending offers. I don't have friends at UVic but when my international friends applied to schools in Ontario, they heard back around the same time as domestic students.
  17. It means "deferred decision" According to their website (https://etudier.uqam.ca/traitement-demandes) that status means they need to review your transcript and other docs before making a decision. I would say it's hopeful? Imo they wanted to reject you based on what they've seen, they wouldn't have bothered asking for hard copies. But I have no experience with UQaM so I cannot say for sure Good luck!!
  18. Congrats!!!! In that case I would think asking for an early consideration is perfectly acceptable. You should email Andrea about it.
  19. Hello! I feel as of right now it's a bit too early to ask (the deadline was a mere 2 weeks ago). If you have been accepted somewhere else, however, that is a valid reason to ask! I'd explain about the deadline to accept the other school's offer and ask for an early consideration from iSchool. I'm applying to the PhD btw, not the MI (which I saw in your signature!). Good luck to both of us
  20. My apologies!! I assumed it would be the same across all programs at UofT but perhaps it's different if you're applying with ORPAS. I'm applying to a different program with UofT, UofT sent me confirmation emails with student IDs and I'm able to log on to check my application status on the School of Graduate Studies site. Again I'm sorry for not reading properly.
  21. Well, I thought you were talking about not receiving the email from UofT, so my post was specifically referring to UofT. JoinID is basically the log in information for UofT student services (they also sent me the student number).
  22. I applied to Carleton for the second time this year! The process is especially confusing (so many portals...), even I got frustrated even though I went through the same last year ugh.
  23. Scroll a bit down (I know right? lol they should've put the lists together...), there's also a list for electives. PhD students must take 2.0 credits in electives i.e 4 0.5 credit classes.
