A few days ago, I looked though the results and found that two of the schools I've applied to sent out some acceptances on the equivalent of today last year (Jan 26 2018). The result of this realization? I've been able to focus on literally nothing else today and am constantly refreshing the results page, the application pages of those schools, and my email in the hopes that something will appear. Like, I've been doing this literally ever 2 minutes.

Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I feel you. It gets worse when you only apply to one school..

YEP.

Last year I only applied to one program and it was a big fat No. This year I only applied to three and while I logically know that decisions for my programs will come in about three weeks.. still so anxious.

I applied to ten and I have only gotten radio silence! From what I've seen on the results page, the results from my schools will probably start coming in the first full week of February, but I've been PETRIFIED and barely able to eat. ?

I am in literally the same boat. This is my third time applying to grad schools and I'm currently waiting on my top choice (I submitted my app for them in November while my other two apps were barely due this month). I've been constantly oscillating between back up planning and daydreaming about getting in, doesn't help that I've been home sick all week. I wish you the best of luck and hope we both get in to our schools of choice!

ME. RIGHT NOW.

I applied to one school and it was rolling admissions - I sent in my app in October and have heard absolutely nothing. By this point, I'm thinking it's time to start looking into my backup plans.

Oh my goodness! I relate to this so much! I applied to nine, nada from any of them so far. I have looked at the results and people are already getting interviews, acceptances, and rejections from some of the schools I applied to. I just want to hear something. ANYTHING! I wasn’t eating all that well either nor sleeping well. I have to force myself to relearn self-care, like yoga and meditating and drinking tea and getting enough sleep, but it’s still hard.?

Good luck to everyone, though! ??

I applied to 9 schools for a mix of PhD and MA programs in psychology, and I've only heard back (and interviewed) from one so far. The waiting game is not fun.

There are a few cases for instance for those who submit the applications for Biomedical Engineering before the early deadline that is November 15th for Purdue University, get notified by January and the rest of the late applicants are informed later about their status. Similarly, for Arizona State University, one batch of offers is out by the end of December and the other batch is out by February end depending on when you submitted your application.

Keep your fingers crossed... We feel your anxiety and stress...

All the very best!!

Applied to two programs top 30 and basically pinning my entire future on it. Wake up, check the if anyone else got in from the same field. Email check for interviews, and the final check on their respective websites. The anxiety is strong with this one.

I also relate. I was admitted to the only program I applied in, but I don’t know if I will get a substantial scholarship to fund it.

I relate so hard to this; I applied to 9 schools as well and people have already started getting phone interviews and acceptances, but I have yet to hear back from any program, even as a rejection. Like what @historygeek said, my programs will probably start posting en mass in the first week of February and I'm petrified but also want to get it over with. It's the worst.

Good luck to everyone waiting it out! This too shall pass. :)

This is my 3rd time applying for Grad School in Physics (F17, F18, F19).  The first, I spent nearly 3000 in app fees to 28 schools...I got into 2.  Great right?  Except the schools I got in had literally no research I wanted to do and were in areas I didn't want to live.  So, I declined and worked in the field for a year.  F18?  Applied to 7 programs I knew I liked that weren't high on US News ranking, including one "safe" school.  All rejections (some as late as April 6).  Another year in the field while I buckled down and worked on my GRE scores.  A year of constant studying later, I raise my subject score 110 points.  This year?  11 schools.  So far, absolute silence.  May have to give up the idea of doing a PhD in physics.  I even applied to some engineering programs.  My GPA? 3.3.

I'm stuck between accepting that I'll need to consider a career change due to competition in physics or bite my lip and try for F20....

Worth mentioning I had professor recommendations for one of my F18 schools I got rejected from AND all three years I have a recommendation letter from a Nobel Prize Laureate.

That Nobel laureate recommendation should count for a lot. Good luck!

*raises hand* Man, I've gone through the schools to which I applied and analyzed when they typically send out invitations for interviews, and notifications of acceptance, rejection and waitlists. I check the results at least twice a day and my email probably every five minutes. Last night I received an email from a school to which I applied and my heart fell out of my chest. It was an email about transferring to their undergraduate school. ? Thanks for the heart attack, [redacted].

I spent a few hours today developing a color-coded calendar of results dates for all of my schools....

This is not good. I mean the calendar is kinda good, but my reaction to the waiting period is not.

I had done the same thing...went back to last years’ results and saw that my top choice started sending their first acceptances the third week of January. Panic mode began.

Then someone posted they were accepted last Monday. I got this sinking feeling that would not leave. Checked email constantly. I was actually annoying myself with how often I was checking my phone.

Then, on a Wednesday, the email came that a decision had been made and to check the portal. I thought for sure it would be bad news. It wasn’t! Instant relief.

I feel so lucky to have an acceptance this early in the game. I hope everyone finds a way to deal with the anxiety while waiting it out. Good luck everyone.

The anxiety is so real!! One of my schools started sending out acceptances two weeks ago for the other concentrations in the program, so I'm expecting a response in my area next week or the one after :0 Honestly what I think is worse than the anxiety of waiting for a rejection/acceptance is that while I'm waiting, I start to worry that I'm not cut out for grad school or that if I mess up my thesis in my final semester it means that I spent months applying to programs that I'm not good enough for. I put too much pressure on myself ?

I'm depressed, more than anything. One of my programs asked for more information for the Graduate Teaching Assistantship and I sent the wrong file. I sent them the right one fifteen minutes later and asked them to disregard the first file. Hopefully they will and this won't blow my chances. What do y'all think?

This is literally me. It gets even worse when your top choice clearly sent out all their acceptances already, so you know you got rejected based on the trends in last years results. I've applied to 11 schools now and have heard nothing.

Unless you sent them a file saying how much you really hope you don't get into that school, you're fine, kiddo.

Welcome to my boat. =(  Not much you can do but hope you get a late cycle acceptance.
