Hi, could share what the open house is like at UCalgary? Is it like an interview or more of an introduction to the department and other students/faculty?

Yeah so it's a mix of things. It's a tour of the department, facilities, clinic, mixer with other students outside the lab, other prospects, but then the POI usually has you interview with them and their students (mostly grad but some undergrads as well) and other lab staff.

Hi Everyone, I've been following everyones progress and stumbled upon the person saying got rejected from York both on portal and getting mass email. My portal shows Reviewed - Unsuccessful (basically rejected) since Monday Jan 18th, and I haven't got any email for rejection. Is there a chance to be on waitlist? Would they consider you for another branch of Psychology, since they ask in the beginning when you fill the application? I just don't know how Yorks system works and this is my first year applying, as I'm still undergraduate student.

The reason I'm asking is because I got rejection from Ryerson both in portal and email stating I couldn't make it.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking, where in the Ryerson portal does it indicate application status? The only thing I can find is that my documents have been received, but nothing on the status of my actual application itself. I find this portal in particular very confusing tbh

If you login to your my.ryerson.ca account and then go to RAMSS, there's additional links there, including email communications. And if you have any offers for admission, they will show up in that portal also. But in terms of the email communications found on that portal, it's the same emails you receive to the email address you listed in your application. So, I don't believe anything will show up in that Ryerson portal that you won't receive an standard email for.

Just wanted to add to this - I recently checked my RAMSS portal and under "Communications" I had 2 messages that were not sent to my email address. It's good I ended up checking the portal itself. Thankfully they were just emails acknowledging receipt of the application and the second message acknowledging a complete application (all documents received). I would definitely recommend checking RAMSS just to be on the safe side!

Wow, I would have never thought to check there lol. For some reason it's not letting me view the letters but I do believe every letter in there corresponds to each email I've received from Ryerson so far about my application. Thanks!

Okay, thanks for clarifying! That's good to know. Everything was coming to my regular email but I'll check the portal more regularly!

Oh damn ok, this scared me so I logged in on Chrome and it let me view the letters. For me I have received all of them to my email, weird that yours weren't!

Anyone hear from OISE CCP or McMaster?

Based on past year postings on the Results forum, seems like OISE CCP doesn't send out admissions (or rejections) until March. Given that program doesn't do interviews, they may take longer to reach out than other programs!

Just for clarification, OISE CCP doesn't have a formal interview day, but everyone I know from the program had an interview/meeting with their POI before they got their offer. The admissions committee meets mid-Feb so any POI one-on-ones happen before that time.

It's true that offers go out the first week of March :)

What do y’all rate as the most important when deciding on a school? Genuinely curious

supervisor/research fit

clinical training

school culture

prestige

location

connections to practicum/internship opportunities

Not sure how common these ones are, but I also took into account the degree name/type (e.g., MEd v. MA v. MSc) that I thought best reflected my personal and professional identity, and I considered expected course load/balance. Oh, yes, and I also took into account CPA accreditation.

Later on, I took into account more factors such as intuition (it just felt right deep down) and level of excitement from different offers when making a final decision.

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone be willing to share any thoughts/info about the strengths, limitations, other characteristics, etc. of any schools or programs? Whether you know about the school from being a past undergrad/current grad student, having interviewed there, knowing students there, etc., I'd love to learn more!

I'm especially interested in Ontario schools because I'm currently in BC and hope to move to Ontario for grad school, but i think it would be valuable to learn about any schools/programs.

If you're willing, feel free to share what you know here or PM me if that's more comfortable.

TIA :)

I think this will vary contingent on everyone's life circumstances too, so what may be higher priority for some are lower for others. For me personally, it is 1) supervisor/research fit - you have such a close relationship with your supervisor, that you need to trust that relationship will be beneficial to you both and give you the opportunities to learn that you need for your end-goals and objectives. 2) location. My family is very supportive and my husband and kids would absolutely move for me if it was necessary - and my original plan was to apply everywhere and we move to wherever accepts me. After a lot of reflection, I was able to determine that even without location being a huge consideration, the school in my city was still among the very top of my list. As a result, I decided for this year to only apply to this school and if I need to reapply next year I may expand that. At the end of the day, even though I know they will come with me - staying in the city makes things infinitely easier on my kids and spouse, and I needed to take that into consideration. from there it would be school culture, connections to practicum opportunities, then prestige.

Supervisor/research fit and location are most important to me.

But I also value the kind of electives they offer. The core classes will probably be the same across most programs but I feel electives is where you can really see what programs value as most important.

This absolutely makes sense!!!
