Has anyone here received any news from Chicago Harris (PhD)? I'm so anxious to wrap this thing up!

Not yet!

Best of luck! Historically there hasn't been a lot of Harris-related activity on the results page, which is not great for expectation management...

Good luck to you too! Will update if I hear anything :)

Hello Everyone! Has anyone else noticed an entry in the New & Prospective Student Center for their portal for the University of Michigan? Specifically for the "View Financial Aid Documents Status" and "View Financial Aid Award Notices?" I was looking, and I saw there was an entry for Aid Year 2022. I can't see the entry, and I also haven't received a decision. I'm not sure if this is a positive sign, or I'm just looking too much into this.

Wait ... for those who applied to UMich did applyweb update to include a link to upload your undergrad transcripts through Certifile? My applyweb changed

Hello! I found this post while I was searching for fellow UMich applicants. I was also wondering the same thing regarding the Certifile on my ApplyWeb.

I was curious if you had a change to your New & Prospective Student Center for their portal for the UMich? I can't see the entry, and I haven't received a decision. I'm not sure if it's reflecting my FAFSA on record or what.

This predoctoral fellowship might be of interest to applicants looking for alternatives :)).

The Empirical Studies of Conflict Project (ESOC) is seeking applicants for its Pre-Doctoral Fellowship for Data-Driven Research.  Participants are hired as predoctoral research specialists on a full-time, benefits-eligible basis for 12-24 months. This program provides an opportunity for recent undergraduates from historically underrepresented groups to gain real-world experience that will prepare them for careers in public service and PhD study in Public Affairs, with a focus on security-related issues.

Hi! I have a similar notice in my account, but I was accepted to the program and received funding information via email so I don’t think the changes in the system are reflective of a decision. I also can not see the entry so I’m not sure what is going on with their system, but I wouldn’t read into it. I’m sorry about that!

Congratulations on your acceptance! :) Thank you so much!! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Hi all, I would like to hear your opinions. Do you guys think when applicants placed on waitlists, it is better to wait after sending them a brief reply? or sending an appeal letter? what would you do?

Hi - Yale's waitlist response was via the portal, but (after discussing with my recommenders) I ended up sending a short email to the DGS expressing my continued interest and inquiring about the length of the waitlist. His response didn't indicate such an email was inappropriate, so that's one option.

Rejected from every program I applied to.

And then... Stanford!

Want to thank everyone on this forum! Your positivity kept me alive!

Congratulations. Relatedly... I wonder if this is indicative of a general pattern this year, i.e. will most applicants who get into to a top school be shut out from all but one?

I honestly have no idea. My application material is pretty much the same for all schools. Stanford is a great fit for me, but so are some other programs that rejected me (in my opinion, some of which are probably better fit + lower rank). So I am guessing luck is indeed very very important.

Hi everyone! I had an interview with a professor from CUNY, as ''one of the top ranked candidate''. Although I am still waiting results from several others schools, I wonder what is your opinion on the the CUNY PhD program in Political Science (IR)? As an international candidate, I guess I still lack proper insight on some schools, although I know it cannot compete with any Ivy League. I appreciate CUNY Graduate School for its open and critically oriented environment, but not sure what one can expect in terms of funding which is crucial for an international in NYC. :D Besides, has anyone heard anything from Georgetown?

I appreciate very much any feedback and wish you all success in the upcoming academic endeavour! :)

@acimova I don't know much about CUNY's program or reputation (also an int'l), but 1 thing I can say that I'm not sure whether you know is that CUNY is part of the 'interuniversity doctoral consortium' which includes NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham, Rutgers, Princeton, and SUNY, so theoretically you could at some point take classes at any of these campuses :)

Hi! I am in exactly the same situation, following this post to see what people's thoughts are. I've been living in NY doing my Master's the last two years with a very modest stipend and am looking forward to something even just a bit higher, if admitted. Also I'm in IR too! :) Did they tell you how many they expect to admit? I didn't ask and now I'm regretting it because it's probably my only option by now. Good luck!

That is also very true! I met up with some current CUNY students a couple of months ago and they were taking classes from Princeton and Columbia

Has anyone else yet to receive the result from Michigan State University? Did they already send all the waitlists? If I didn't get updates on my status, should I be supposed to think that I am rejected?

I believe they've sent rejections already. I'd guess that it likely means you're waitlisted, congrats!

Curious if anyone has thoughts or has gotten advice from others on the importance of subfield rankings on US News (wondering about AP in particular)? I'm considering T25 programs that seem pretty comparable, but some are ranked vs. unranked for AP.

Have you been admitted or are you asking for next year? If its the former, I would honestly just set up calls with your recommenders and run your options by them. My sense is that rankings mean less the smaller the differential, and things like differences in teaching responsibilities, stipend amount, life stuff will matter more at this stage than any perceived differences in prestige once we're talking within tier (CHYMPS/T15/T25/T50). This is especially true if you are comparing schools lower on the subfield list (Vanderbilt/OSU/WUSTL) and schools that could easily make it on said list next year. If you are comparing a school that is in the first half of the subfield list versus unranked subfield...well thats a different matter and probably worth considering. Just my two cents.
