  1. It may be difficult to get a test date and scores in time for most application deadlines. However, if you've already worked that part out, consider your overall profile and how competitive the schools you're applying to are. If your scores are in each in the 140's, you're not too far from the desired 300 total and if you have a 3.7+ GPA, decent experience/extracurriculars, and good SOP/Letters of Recc you're probably still a fairly competitive applicant. The other thing to consider is how competitive the programs you're applying to are. See how your GRE scores stack up on Edfind. Good luck!
  2. Was it your overall GPA or communication disorders coursework GPA? I know there can be slight variations based on how they formulate it, but everyone's GPA will be calculated the same way so everyone should experience the same variation. Unless it's really drastic, it's probably normal.
  3. If you can be really flexible about the location that might help. For example, there are a lot of schools in less dense parts of the country that would probably be easier. I would definitely look at schools on edfind to see who has a GPA average closer to yours. If you can do really well on the GRE, get a great letter of rec from your supervising SLP once your a SLPA, and can give a good explanation for your GPA in your SOP, that might help too. Part of the challenge is a lot of schools have a cut off GPA as the first stage of the selection process, so it will be particularly important to find schools with lower average GPAs. I hope it works out for you!
  4. Next CSDCAS has to verify your application. The bulk of this process is them checking your actual transcripts against what you entered for your transcripts manually. It can take a couple weeks, but when I submitted mine at the beginning of the month, I think it only took two days. But unless your program is a "green deadline" it doesn't need to be verified by Saturday. You can see the deadline color key and scroll down further on the page to see which color your school's deadline is here. Good luck!
  5. That's frustrating! ? I haven't had a professor require I take two classes with her/him first, so I think maybe this guy just has a stick up... nvm, my point is, I think you won't find that with most professors you ask. Have you tried asking anyone else yet?
  6. Your evaluators each complete one letter that is available to all of the CSDCAS schools, so adding another school should not affect them. Good luck!
  7. That's a really great GPA and shadowing experience! I would throw some "safe" schools into the mix if you haven't already. I know schools look for roughly 300 between q and v, but also look at everything else and know everyone has hard days. Someone on the committee for the audiology program at my school mentioned recently that a high GPA and mediocre GRE scores actually show the student knows how to work really hard. The GRE is biased in favor of people who are native English speakers, so if that's not you, that could also play in your favor! Don't give up hope and don't second guess your accomplishments! Everybody has weaknesses.
  8. Yes, it is! Sorry -- got stuck in my school's jargon. Congratulations on the A!!! You're on your way!
  9. You’ll need a lot of pre-reqs, but your background is fine. Don’t stress too much, I switched to SLP and went back to school at 25.
  10. I would send her an updated resume and explain why. It will show you have integrity. Can’t imagine anyone would judge you for making the correction.
  11. Portland State University! https://www.pdx.edu/sphr/news/psu-launches-public-clinic-empower-transgender-gender-diverse-people-find-their-voice
  12. You've got this! Do everything you can to get solid A's in your COMD classes going forward, even if that means reducing your course load. Most schools are much more concerned with your COMD GPA. I know one school that looks at the last 60 units is CBU.
  13. Your verbal is good, so with a good personal statement I bet you could get in. I would apply to a lot of schools and to several in less populated parts of the country that might be less competitive. Good luck!
  14. I also had a problem with CSULB's prerequisites. I never took a Clinical Observations/ Professional Writing (CD 489) course. That topic was covered throughout several of mine. ?
  15. I have a question about confidentiality and using personal stories pertaining to clinical experiences in my SOP. I don’t plan to go into great detail about a specific patient, but I do want to talk about the patient's disorder and the process of the SLP pointing out the condition to me and then counseling the patient (I want to write it about that generally too). I can’t quite figure out where the line is on confidentiality, but there seems to be overwhelming advice to include personal stories so I'm torn! ? For example (this would not be the polished finished version, however this shows the level of detail I want to use), I want to say something like, the SLP showed me the patient's video swallow study and explained a patient had X, which I found very interesting and had not previously learned about. Then we went to the patient’s room and I observed the SLP counsel the patient, which helped me understand the human side of the disorder. I would not give name, age, gender, or any other identifying characteristics. Just the disorder/condition. However, based on my application/resume, the location and rough timing (within a couple months) would be apparent. I’m considering talking about some other clinical experiences too, so my questions are: - is just disclosing the disorder (and location/vague timing inadvertently through my application) appropriate? - what would you say in addition, if anything, IS appropriate to include? - for those in grad school already, did you do this in your SOP? - for those applying now, will you include clinical examples in your SOP? Thank you so much for your guidance!
  16. Thank you!
  17. - Where are you from? California - Which programs are you applying to? Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State LA, Cal State Northridge, California Baptist University, Chapman, University of Redlands, Portland State University, and UT Austin - What are your biggest concerns about applications? I will somehow miss something or do something incorrectly and get disqualified ?
  18. 27 year-old post-bacc student and just applying for my masters -- I like that this field has a lot of second-career types!
  19. I know schools are pretty willing to look past lower quant scores because often (though not the rule!) non-math types are drawn to this field.
  20. It seems like about 300 combined is what schools look for and you're virtually there. Plus the test is biased towards native English speakers, which I think schools acknowledge.
  21. Your CSD GPA is based solely on your communication disorders classes and I would assume, for most schools, they take into account even those that weren't pre-reqs for their specific program. I think the caliber of the science classes is taken into account and if all of your other stats look good a C or greater would make most programs happy.
  22. The person who ran the grad info session at my school who has been a part of decision committees gave an example of when grade inflation was taken into account in the opposite sense. He said there was a local university that produced an outrageous amount of 4.0 students so they always took a harder look at applicants from those schools. So hopefully the opposite, attending a more difficult school, would also be considered.
  23. With such a great GPA I think you definitely do. Do you have any clinic or relevant work experience? I would throw in a healthy balance of "safe" schools with your dream schools. Also the GRE is widely believed to be biased in favor of monolingual English speakers so if that doesn't describe you that could help, because I think schools are somewhat aware of that and want diverse cohorts.
  24. Have you been able to contact the school directly? Sorry ? So many confusing hoops to jump through with CSDCAS...
  25. I made a similar mistake. I'm just going to be very apologetic and say I misunderstood the requirements and asked for one more than I needed.
