CateFace Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Exciting day seeing more Canadian universities posting on the results page! Nothing from the programs I applied to yet, but I'm refreshing a lot despite trying not to! Congrats to all that have been contacted so far and good luck at your interviews! Paris1045 1

My school does not have a clinical program, so all the research available to undergrads was very experimental as opposed to clinical (eg., cognition, developmental psych, neuropsych, social psych, etc). Most of my research experience is in cognitive psych since it's what I did my honors thesis in, however I also have done research on presentation anxiety and been an RA in a developmental psych lab. I also completed a program evaluation of a psychological intervention at my internship. And yet, I'm not applying to work in any of those areas at the graduate level - I've applied to work in trauma and/or sexual health. I never really considered it to be a disadvantage since I have a bunch of experience nonetheless, but sometimes I worry that if I'm compared to someone with research experience directly in that area, I wouldn't be seen of as good a fit for the lab and they'd take the person with directly applicable experience instead. I feel this so hard. I am a lab coordinator with 20+ presentations, a publication, and two accepted publications. I went to a smaller school with limited fields of research so I picked trauma and ran with it. But I'm really much more interested in sexual health. Because I didn't have that specific research experience, I did a two year program in sexual health in attempts to compensate a bit. I also work in addictions. So basically applications express interest in working in all three fields. I was SO worried about my SOI's looking disjointed and unfocused. But I've already been invited for two interviews and I've had two "informal chats." I should mention its my fourth year applying and the first time anyone has showed interest so I'm really hopeful. It was intimidating hearing that my POI of choice had 100+ applications and already knows/has worked with a number of them. But I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. OhPsych and cpsych2021 1 1

Would love a link Hey guys, if you scroll to the top underneath the gradcafe logo on the left, click results It'll show you this page: https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/ where people input whether they got interviews, offers, and rejections for all types of grad programs. You can sort by date and even search a particular school and program. So I've been searching for "Clinical Psychology" or "University of Toronto Clinical Psychology" for e.g. Edited January 5, 2021 by Hope466 carlrogersfan98 and Regina77 1 1

Wanderingmind Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Does anyone have any thoughts on sending thank-you emails after an initial interview? Not sure if I should do it
Hope466 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has experience/insight about informal interviews. Specifically, if you had an informal chat with a POI before deadlines, if they would typically reach out for another informal one, or would they typically only extend a formal invite if they thought you are a good candidate (cause another informal may be redundant)? Just curious so I know what to expect! Of course, I know it may depend on the POI but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Hope466 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 I think it is always a good idea and shows you're interested as well as professionalism I did this after my informal chats, and am planning on doing it after other informal/formal interviews as well if I am lucky enough to get any. psych11123 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 For anyone who has completed interviews this year or even last year, how do you handle post-interview catastrophizing? I feel like I screw up every interview after it's over and I'm not going to get anywhere.
psych51038 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 How many of you guys are getting interviews (formal or informal) so far? I haven't heard anything from any school and it's so nerve-wracking! egyptianintoronto, carlrogersfan98 and xtrahotlatte 3

I'm not sure if this is a general thing or not though. Also, not sure if it matters but these two were on a separate application cycle! 2 hours ago, Wanderingmind said: Does anyone have any thoughts on sending thank-you emails after an initial interview? I think you are a very competitive and impressive candidate! They do not expect you to be an expert in the field that is your end-goal, that is why you are going to continue learning. But you also demonstrate some incredible abilities to participate in a research-based learning opportunity!
