Which schools were you waitlisted at?

HELP!!! Not sure how to decide between schools
Rezzy S. replied to ifslp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Wow! That kind of funding is amazing. But at the same time, if UTD is your dream school and since you have in-state tuition, paying down the debt doesn’t seem like it would be too bad once you’re an SLP. If it were me I’d choose Dallas just to avoid the cold . -
Thanks for the info! That’s a massive cohort for a SoCal CSU. ??

"Cheaper" out of state tuition in the western states
Rezzy S. replied to Jess3863's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Probably the CSU’s in California would be a better bet tuition wise but they have like 8-15% acceptance rates. They also tend to admit more of their undergrads/post-baccs because they have that relationship already. Private schools have a 20-30% acceptance rate but are really expensive. Scholarships are also pretty rare out here :’( If you have 3.8+ CSD GPA and a pretty good overall GPA, you could try it, but have some backups elsewhere. -
From everything I've heard, you're right that CSULA/CSUF/CSULB all take about half of their own students. I don't know that much about CSUN. At this point it looks like all of the interview invitations have been sent out for CSUF and CSULB, but who knows maybe we still have a chance ?. Thank you for the info about CSUN! In the past they've announced the last week of March, but I was hoping maybe we would hear earlier. It seems like CSUN accepts more students than those other SoCal CSU's, but they don't post anything on ASHA EdFind so I can't confirm that. Did she happen to mention how many they usually admit? Waiting for Redlands, too. You may also find this topic helpful if you're trying to keep tabs on the CSU's.

Just from my undergrad courses, I would guess physics. A lot of what we learn about respiration and the Bernoulli Effect is all physics. I would take a look at the pre-reqs of both to make sure you qualify to take each one and to gauge how difficult they are. For example, at my CC/JC chemistry required college algebra and physics required calculus. My chemistry class, condensed over the summer, was probably the hardest class I've ever taken, but a lot of that was because the version for non-majors filled up before I could get a spot, so pay attention to that as well.

After being both pleasantly surprised and disappointed with varous programs’ decisions and seeing others feel the same, I’m dying to know if anyone has heard from professors or others about what goes down “in the room where it happens” (any Hamilton fans out there?). Of course some programs look at stats, others the whole applicant, and so on. But how do they go from 40 perfect candidates to 20? Are there debates among comittee members, coin tosses, etc?

Definietly agree that absolutes can be unhelpful and each individual has to choose what’s best or most practical for her. I think a lot of programs that focus less on research can mean more face time with professors and sometimes those professors have had more clinical practice. While I totally agree EBP is absolutely critical, implementing that EBP involves its own skill set which a more research focused professor may or may not be the “best” at. So, while I agree with you on most fronts, I would just say “best” can mean different, equally valid things to different students. I’m grateful for your perspective as someone trying to decide between two such schools.

University of Redlands decisions???
Rezzy S. replied to peachy.speechie's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Waiting on them too. Though if I even get accepted I would probably decline because I have better options location-wise. Where else have you applied @wntrs.eve? -
I wasn’t invited either so just waiting for those rejections lol
-
Congratulations on SDSU - that's a great program! We applied to 6 of the same schools. Did you get invitations to CSULB's interviews or CSUF's open house? I feel the same about my nerves at the CSULA interview ? Out of state I applied to UT Austin (admitted) and Portland State (wait listed). I've been admitted to one CA program so far but I would have to relocate and it would be complicated logistically.

Any Portland State (PSU) applicants out there?

I'm in a similar place. Waiting for CSULA, CSUN, (3 weeks til we hear from these two! ?) and Redlands, and have lost hope in Chapman/CSUF/CSULB because I never heard back for interviews. Also applied to 7 CA schools and 2 out of state lol. Which out of state schools have you applied to?

Stay in California or explore New York?
Rezzy S. replied to Blossom19's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
See page three of this document from the state of California about half way down. Looks like you just have to jump through a couple minor administrative hoops. -
Haha this is me exactly! I've been wondering if I'll have it in me to reactivate that dreadful thing once I decide on a school. I don't want to miss out on getting to know people, but I might just wait until orientation

Rezzy S. replied to Blossom19's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Agree with you on Stockton, but yeah the cost of NYC is so high (if I had fewer roots where I'm at I'd do it in a second though!). Are there any other California schools you're still waiting to hear from? Your CCC's are enough to let you work in medical settings in CA, it's just working in CA schools that you'd need a state-specific credential for. -

Thank you! Also curious to hear from students in the grad program! -
UT Austin - Student Opinions
Rezzy S. replied to slptobe97's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Thank you for asking this! Does anyone know what the out of state tuition is? On their website you have to indicate how many units to find out, and I'm not really sure how many a student in that program normally takes a semester. -
Slightly off topic, but I had never heard of the BCS-S designation, so thank you for enlightening me. Good luck making your decision!
