Fall 2020 Clinical/Counseling Interview Invites

If a program has multiple interview weekends, it can be hard to know how many candidates are interviewing in total.  
 

And while it’s hard to believe when you are an applicant dying for an offer, some PI’s will extend an offer only to have it declined and then have to work their way through the waitlist. So some programs know that they may have to interview a larger pool of candidates to yield an acceptance.

That being said, I also have experience with programs that invite 8-10 applicants for one spot (I can think of two programs in particular) and frankly, like others have mentioned, it rubs me the wrong way. One of them specifically states that the odds are stacked against you if you choose to interview via Skype and do not come in person and that puts a massive financial burden on applicants for a ~ 12% likelihood of acceptance.

Yeah 3-5 per slot is pretty normal in my experience!

I saw some people on the results page have invites to the psyd program at LIU Post. Does anyone know if these were mass emails?

Has anyone been invited to an in-person interview at Clark, or know if they do them? I saw on the results page that some people have had calls, and the grad admissions person I talked to on the phone said that final decisions aren't out yet.

A friend of mine interviewed at Clark in person last year. Can't speak to their process this year but they did it in the past!

I saw a Suffolk poster say that they got an email telling them to check the portal for a  rejection letter. I know interview invites were sent out last week. There is nothing on my portal (no rejection, no interview invite). Does anyone have any insight on what this might mean?

Has anyone received a Hofstra invite from POI ER? Feel free to DM if you don't want to post! Invites can technically go out till this Friday but I have another interview the same day as Hofstra and I don't know whether to confirm with that school or not!

Has anyone received rejections from universities yet? I haven't received any interview invites, but having lurked on the results page all month, it looks like all the schools I applied to except Columbia have sent out or already had interviews. Should I just assume I am rejected from all? The following is what I have so far:

McGill- Heard nothing at all since submitting, results page says that a few people got interview invites at different times in January. 

UMASS Boston- Got a rejection from their PhD program on 01/24/2020, but given an option to apply to their master's program. 

NYU- Haven't heard anything. Results page indicates that all interview invites have been sent out already. 

USC- Haven't heard anything, results page looks like interview invites have been sent out. 

UCSB- Haven't heard anything, looks like they finished sending out interview invites at the beginning of January. I'm just wondering why they haven't sent out a rejection email. 

Boston College- Haven't heard anything, results page indicates that interview invites have been sent already. 

Columbia- Haven't heard anything, results page says that they plan to send interview invites at the end of this week and early next week. (But honestly I've probably been rejected here too considering all the other schools are rejecting me). 

If anyone has more information, or any advice about what to do please share! I'm a huge ball of anxiety right now. I will be applying to UMASS Boston's Master's program at this point, and am really hoping that if I am rejected from all PhD programs, maybe some other schools would give me the option to their Master's as well.

I think so, I just got a generic email telling me which interview date they assigned me. It seems other people received different days, so they seemed to be randomly assigned.

I know that UIUC has not finished it's process but that there have been some interviews? From what my contact says it seems like they are doing things differently than they have in previous years.

UCSB already had their interview weekend, so that's safe to assume rejection. This is my second cycle, and my experience last time was that unfortunately you either get invited or you never hear anything.  Some programs also wait until the April 15 deadline to send official rejections, once they've 100% solidified their incoming cohort. My best advice would be to let these go if you haven't heard and it seems like most other people have, it's the worst feeling to keep holding out hope. 

Was your rejection from UMass Boston a mass email?

Their interview day this year is Feb 5th or 7th. So all invites have been extended at least for this round, not sure if they will do a second.
