Yeah of course! I figured it may help ease some anxiety for some. My PIs initials are A.D. I don't know if that PI is looking but I know that in our lab they are starting initial reviews next week and to start reaching out in the new year. I expect that it would likely be similar for your PI too but I can't say for sure. I hope that helps I'm sorry I don't have more info.

Thank you so much for sharing! :) I also applied to UDenver and it’s my top choice so far (POI: P.K.) so fingers crossed! Best of luck on the rest of your grad school journey ♥️

Hey, welcome! I’m in the same situation in my first year applying. I also only applied to programs with neuropsychology concentrations but even more specifically to those with a child/developmental track. I chose places that were good fits overall and had professors that I felt were great matches. The programs are University of Kansas, Kentucky, Denver, Memphis, North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Florida International University.

Everyone that I got advice from (former professors, clinical psychologist friends, and current students) said being specific helps a ton, especially if you have experience. It is hard thinking that you’re limiting your options though. Aside from Neuropsych, is there anything else about your programs that stood out?

Okay that makes me feel a little better haha! I am looking to primarily work with adults and in a hospital setting, so I looked for programs that had closer ties to various hospital practicum/internship sites, plus of course tried to find a professors who had similar research interests (TBI, SOLs, Alzhiemer's) and seemed to have good access to neuroimaging equipment since that's also a big part of the research I want to be involved in. I don't really know if that makes any of them "stand out," but that was the criteria I used to narrow down to the ten I applied to lol.

hello everyone!!! i'm a clinical psych grad student at university of miami. i was sharing this website with a friend who is applying and thought i'd poke around for the ~mems~ and maybe drop in with some info. i've seen a lot of the stuff on twitter about how competitive this years' applications are -- i can't imagine how that's making ya'll feel, so sorry if some of that messaging hasn't been super thoughtfully conveyed. BUT i wanted to say that, as a grad student, i know my PI and many of our faculty seem incredibly busy this year! our university, and i believe many others, pushed our semester up this year, meaning finals just wrapped for a lot of programs and many faculty are deep in the trenches of grading. that, on top of planning a virtual applicant weekend, on top of many programs reviewing faculty job apps for new diversity-geared positions, on TOP of the pandemic, might mean things are slower this year. i worked at another top 10 university prior to grad school and am still in touch with a clinical psych mentor there; they seem similarly swamped with new COVID-related studies, trying to get lab studies up and running again, etc.

if anyone applied to the university of miami and wants to connect, feel free to message me! good luck to you all. my advice is to also try and get some rest now while you can, before interview invites start coming in and you have to hunker down again to prep for those. :) props to you all for applying in such crazy circumstances.

I don't know who all has applied to the University of Denver but I'm a current MA student in the Counseling program and they're gonna start looking at applications end of this week/early next week! Just thought I'd share to hopefully ease some anxiety for anyone waiting. Also if you have any questions about the program feel free to PM me. Although I'm in the MA program we take the same professors and a lot of courses with the PhD students.

I'm also a part time RA in the clinical psychology dept so I can potentially answer share some info on that although its limited a lot to the lab I'm in.

Good luck everyone!

You are a saint, thank you!

Hi everyone, this is definitely just nerves hitting in but if we do get an interview email is it typically from the general grad application email address or the PI? My email has been filtering some grad emails as spam and even deleting them, so I'm going to play around in my settings to see what's going on, but knowing where to expect them from would be helpful!

It can be either. When I applied about 50% came from the grad coordinator or DCT, and 50% came from the POI.

Awesome thanks! Do you mind if I ask a follow-up? Does your application portal reflect that you received an interview? I added all the emails for the places I applied to in my contacts so hopefully they won't get labeled as spam, but I want to be extra sure.

I read on SDN from a faculty member that interview invites might not come until January. Hang tight, and don't worry if you don't get an interview invite this month!

Definitely! The surge in applications has led to them needing to take longer to look through them all! We may be hearing this cycle later than usual. We've got this!

For clinical, you will normally hear from the POI/program coordinator directly. I never checked any portals.

Oh my god the results page is ridiculous right now. "I got an interview" "Who was your POI?" "Just an FYI, they don't have to tell you their POI!" "To the poster who talked about not requesting people's POI, who was your POI?" ?

Oh my goodness I saw that... how ridiculous. Lol

Congrats to everyone receiving early interviews! I can't help but consistently check the page for any of the schools I've applied to and not receiving interviews yet :( I feel like I am being harsh on myself but ughh I'm so anxious!!

Same :( it seems like most people are posting about preliminary interviews though and i see a lot of the same schools talked about, so hopefully within the next few weeks we’ll get official interviews for Jan-feb for the ones we applied to! I’ve also seen that some schools say they won’t send out invites until January because there’s no rush since everything’s virtual. We’re all definitely riding the anxiety wave together! Just remember that it’s not over until it’s over in April, so never lose hope! Each day that passes is just another day closer to that exciting email or phone call :))

I received an email from my PI at UCSB requesting I fill out a form providing additional information. After I submitted it, I was invited to have a Zoom call next week! Not sure if this is an interview or a pre-interview, but excited nonetheless.

For anyone who applied to University of Kansas's Clinical Child program, I was informed by the Admissions Assistant that the committee will begin reviewing applications at the end of this month. Invitations for interviews will be sent out mid-January. Hopefully, this eases some anxiety!
