  1. I am also between two programs and am having a really hard time choosing! And the 15th is coming up so quickly! I'm currently between Arizona State and San Jose State. Here's kind of my pros and cons about everything: 1) ASU: Cons: Out-of-state, have received no funding at all. Probably going to cost around $40,000 for the whole program if I don't get funding Pros: AMAZING clinical opportunities, bilingual focus that's exactly what I want to do, a lot of opportunities to do internships in just about any setting, really great research opportunities, seems like it's easy to maintain a part-time job while in the program 2) SJSU: Cons: hard to get medical internships, tends to be more pediatric-focused, gonna have to live with at least a few room mates to afford rent Pros: in-state, I'll get a grant that will cover a really good chunk of tuition as well! also has great research opportunities, also has a multicultural/multilingual focus If anyone has any insight in to ASU/SJSU I'd really appreciate it! Sorry for the long post lol
  2. As far as I know just the e-mail. But I'm not sure if they've sent anything to my permanent address (I love on campus at my current institution).
  3. My back up was substitute teaching. The pay's pretty dang good in California! Luckily I don't have to do that though.
  4. I know they sent them out for the past two weeks...I have yet to hear of anything about a waitlist or rejections. It seems like they might do it after the 15th for rejections?
  5. I'm not sure what SLPA licensure is like in NY, but maybe look into if it. I know many of the grad students at my current undergrad institution mentioned that having that experience really helped them get into grad school, especially since the director of their work places were able to also write them LOR about their abilities as a clinician during therapy. I'm really sorry about the rejections/waitlists, I really hope that you get in!
  6. I would honestly just leave it be. Chances are they give out a general financial aid package to everyone (I know Washington State did that for me waaaaay before I even interviewed or got accepted) that has really nothing to do with your position. Chances are they're waiting for the 15th to see who is accepting and who is declining! I would maybe email them about your continued interest in their program in a week or so just to make sure it doesn't seem like you're overwhelming them
  7. Via email to my personal email! The portal still shows "refer to grad dept", so they must not update it until you accept the offer or something
  8. Went to an open house about a couple weeks ago, there were quite a few parents/significant others there. I would ask the program if it would be appropriate though because some may not want anyone but applicants there. Can't hurt to be safe!
  9. If you're okay with starting in Spring, Fresno State takes a cohort in both the Spring/Fall. I'm not sure of other programs that do rolling admits. Hope you find some!
  10. Still waiting to hear from Fresno State. I'm hoping I'll hear back this coming week or the next, hopefully sooner rather than later!
  11. My friend who chose to go for her AuD over SLP did an internship abroad and realized she wasn't a huge fan of speech therapy. She just didn't like the whole process of lesson planning, doing therapy, etc. I am currently pursuing SLP and I LOVE doing therapy and the direct human contact lol.
  12. I'm an undergrad at Redlands, feel free to PM me about the school!
  13. Can you not use loans for housing? I know some schools will allow you to use the loans you take on for housing/food, if you don't need them for tuition purposes. Not exactly ideal but ya gotta do what ya gotta do edit: lol just realized you included that in your original comment. What is reading comprehension. Anyway loans aren't ideal but I get the impression that it is how people tend to pay for housing. I am fortunate to have some money I can use for housing, but I'm planning to get a part-time job if I can!
  14. Honestly? If you are 100% sure that the school you've been accepted to is the one you want to go to, I would decline the interview...but if you're even a little bit doubtful and want to explore your options, I would take it.
  15. I haven't heard if any have gotten acceptances/rejections, but it does seem like they're doing them in waves (I saw some people had already posted yesterday and honestly thought I didn't get in!) I wouldn't get discouraged yet, they're probably just sending them out over this (and possibly next) week!
  16. Accepted to SJSU today! Honestly thought after seeing the acceptances yesterday that I was screwed lol
  17. I would start looking into good second options if grad school doesn't work out. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for you, but if worst comes to worst it'll be better to have a job/volunteer experience set up so that you can continue to improve your application. But don't lose hope yet! I know people that have gotten off the waitlist months after the April 15th deadline. The most you can do now is continue to kick ass, whether it's gettin' A's on your exams or working or whatever. If you really want to do something productive I'd suggest brushing up on IPA and some of the concepts from classes and taking up an all-mind-consuming hobby. I also highly suggest browsing these forums and having a quarter life crisis. It's what I do best.
  18. Saw in the results page that some have heard from SJSU...haven't gotten an email, so I'm feeling a little blue about that. :/ oh well!
  19. Absolutely. Beyond research into, think of the skills you need to work with these children--patience, flexibility, etc. I'm sure you can think of a ton of ways that's going to apply to almost any person you work with in this field. You can connect almost any work/volunteer experience to SLP work honestly!
  20. I am attending ASU's open house tomorrow and wearing a business casual dress and a cardigan (in case it's cold in the building). I have no idea if it's what you SHOULD wear since it's my first open house ? I'll let you know what others wear though! I figure it can't hurt to go business casual haha it leaves a good first impression!
  21. Thank you! Yeah, it's up there for me because of the location/price. I have some friends that went through the program and they really enjoyed it. I'm hoping the best for you with Fresno!!!
  22. Also waiting on Fresno! I am feeling so impatient but I know better than to expect anything yet...from previous years it looks like they don't send anything out until April. I just wanna know!
  23. Hey guys, for those of you attending the open house: 1) What are you wearing? I was planning to go business casual but I'm not sure if that's too dressed up...I also know that it's supposed to rain which is going to be super humid!! 2) Have any of you guys received the additional info on the walking tour? Thanks!!!
