jujusr Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Quick question: do schools/programs send out rejection notice all at once to applicants that weren’t invited to the interview? For example, i know the interview for Fordham was approximately two weeks ago, and i have seen someone else posted on the Results page that they received their rejection letters. But I have not yet received even one rejection even though two of the programs i applied to are finished interviewing applicants. What does this mean?

Expand Unfortunately, if you didn't interview, you will most likely be receiving a rejection at some point. Most schools seem to send out acceptances and rejections at the same time, so it could be the case that some POIs have already identified the applicant(s) they want while others are still deciding. There is always the unlikely chance that they review applications again after the interviews for whatever reason? Specifically for Fordham - did you check the box to have your application reviewed for their Masters program if you weren't selected for the PhD program? I also didn't get my rejection from Fordham yet but I'm guessing it's because they have to consider me for the masters program.

I just wanted to add one thing. If you are really certain of your decision, declining the interview may also open up that slot to someone who may have been waitlisted for an interview. So if you would be going just for the sake of going and not really considering it, I would opt for reaching out. I don't think it would burn any bridges. I would phrase it something like this: "thank you so much for the interview opportunity. However, I have recently been offered acceptance to a different program and will be committing to that offer." If it is an official acceptance that you are certain you want to accept (duh 1st choice lol), I would recommend (if its not too much economical strain) going to one additional interview just to potentially have room for negotiations (request higher stipend, or secure RA Line, etc). In the interest of your time and the schools (and all other anxiously hopeful applicants) I would let the other programs know you have made a decision so that they can extend the opportunity to someone else. Again congrats you earned this! ?? Expand On 2/6/2020 at 5:39 PM, justacigar said: Agree with this. As someone who is currently waitlisted for an interview, knowing that people might take the slot who have no intention of accepting an offer would be disheartening. To be extended the invites is a huge honor. To just not even go and meet the faculty member who invited you, their grad students, and learn more about the program is kinda rude. You could be excited about your first choice but can be surprised by other programs and what they have to offer. But so it goes I guess Katie B 1

It is equally as rude to go to an interview knowing full well you're most likely going to accept an offer elsewhere. Not to mention, it's a lot of money out the window. Schools have applicants on hold for this very reason, and by her giving away her spot for the interview, she's most likely allowing a more eager applicant to take her place. Psych20 Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Hi everyone! Question: I got an unofficial (email from POI) offer today from my first choice and accepted! I will be waiting for the official email first, but once I have that is it considered good form to reach out to programs I have interviewed at but not heard back from yet to please "remove me from consideration" since I have accepted an offer at another program? Appreciate any advice on how to navigate this. Thanks, and good luck to everyone as those offers start rolling in! Madpudding, Psyched Coffee Bean and oliviamabel 2 1

I thought it was fine to wait a day and got acceptances offers from other programs, the second ranked applicant got a waitlist (which sucks). psycstudent2018 Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Should you tell POI's you've been accepted elsewhere..even if you don't know if you're going to accept? I interviewed on Monday at my top choice. Since then, I received an offer of admission elsewhere. Next week should I send an email along the lines of wanting to check the status of my application as I have received an offer and want to be able to make a timely educated decision?

ThatBattyOne Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Has anyone who interviewed at UAlbany heard anything back? It's been two weeks of radio silence now for me.
Psyche1988 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Hi guys! I found out I am waitlisted at my top choice program and I was wondering if anyone can shed light on how the waitlist works? Will I be considered only if the person accepted by my poi declines the offer or does it not matter? Is their a ranking given to the waitlisted and they are considered accordingly irrespective or POI? thanks in advance Jkid 1

Programs/PIs *should* tell you whether you are either high on the waitlist, in the middle, or low on the waitlist but I don't think they're obligated to disclose your exact place on the waitlist.
